Wasn't there a team that just did that to us pre lovie?
Yeah I believe the Cards blocked us from that McNulty guy ...he was the original guy we wanted as OC before we went after Sully.
I thought there was one more recent, but oh well. Point is made.Still, I don't understand the logic... to keep him, he must do bad? ....if he does badly, and he can go anywhere else he wants anyway imo. After reading this, it make me not even want an oc. Lol
To keep him....promote him. That is what those Assistant HC labels are all about.
There you go. Good thinking anti.
Can't they just block it? Seems to happen to us a lot.
A team can block a lateral move, but not an upward move.
No they can block upward moves too. Its a contract afterall. Its just an unwritten rule that you shouldnt. Its d0uche baggy to prevent a promotion.
No, they can't. The rules are clear. it isn't "unwritten" it is written
And to clarify, the only "upward" promotion is to HC. Going from position coach to coordinator is considered lateral
So you are saying blocking a position coach from being a coordinator is unwritten , lol
Just pay him more?I mean, if he obviously turns our offense into a top five, could you then just throw him a hc's salary? (Knowing he's worth it). That's two coaches being paid though, so idk how well it would work out.
Let's assume that Tedford is so great in year one that teams look for him to be a HC. Wouldn't that say something about the idea that Lovie is incapable of identifying a quality OC?

No, what I'm saying is you are completely incorrect in claiming there is no rule prohibiting people from blocking someone from interviewing for a HC position. Which is the topic under discussion.

Actually they can't block upward moves, that has never been the issue, the problem is the NFL deems all assistants to be on the same level which blocks perceived upward moves like QB coach to OC
But blocking such a move is still frowned upon and usually not done in most cases. That's where the unwritten rule part comes in .

Teams can also block a coach from interviewing, even if its a step up to HC. That happened this season, when Cleveland wanted to interview a Niners assistant. And they blocked it until they were out of the playoffs. Which is their right. The coach didn't seem to thrilled about it. He made some comments about that may have cost him the Browns HC job.
Did you mean saved him from the Browns HC job? Personally, I would block staff from interviewing during a playoff run as well.
Seattle didn't and it worked out for them.Anyhow, there was tons of this kind of talk with Sullivan's OC genius year one, and that turned out great, huh? I think most teams will want to see at least a two or three year stretch of consistency in the NFL before going after Tedford. If they do, and our offense is great, that will be awesome, and maybe we will have someone ready and groomed to promote. If Tedford is so good, maybe he will start his own coaching tree right here.Even if he does get snatched away, that is the way the game is played, I'll just keep my big boy pants on and roll with it, as I am sure most of the rest if you will.Writer is sure reaching now.

SO ... is it written or not ?? LOL
LMAO! WHO WRITES THIS CRAP?! AND WHY DOES THIS DUDE KEEP POSTING IT?!! IT'S RIDICULOUS!I just want to see the OP post it. Say that we should hope for a mediocre offense that's good enough to get the job done but bad enough to where no one will be impressed with Tedford. Please write it. If you have any balls, please write it. Because that's exactly what this crap article is saying. This is worst than the article about Sammy Watkins being too talented to fit into the system.
I am not sweating it. Even if he does well next season, he will need to put together a couple of great seasons, before teams start sniffin around. So, he will be here 2 years minimum, maybe longer. IMO
