Cousins 16 for 26, 1 TD and 2 INTs. Pitts was targeted 3 times and London targeted 3 times. Watching part of the game, it just didn't look like the O-line was holding up. 10 points. Give credit to the Steelers for having a good defense, but the whole idea of getting Cousins was to be able to utilize Pitts and London and they only got a total of six targets for a combined 41 receiving yards. The problem with Atlanta isn't how good they can be this year.
The problem for Atlanta is they do not look better than the Saints, Bucs, Vikings, Packers, Bears, Lions, Cowboys, Eagles, Rams, Seahawks and 49ers so far. Cardinals might be on par with Atlanta but lets say that Atlanta is better than Arizona at this point.
So for Atlanta to live up to the expert high level prediction of dominating the NFC conference they need to out play a lot of NFC teams but based on how they look and on paper I am not seeing it.
Cousins was under a lot of pressure today. Three picks is not a good look. That Atlanta 0-line looks suspect, maybe we'll have a full complement back by the time we see them.
The Falcons invested a lot of resources into the OL and even if you put Penix out there I am not so sure the results would have differed that much. So yeah it is not on Cousins but Cousins isn't good enough to carry a very average Atlanta team.
So at some point Pitts or London need to become the star players they were projected to be to elevate the Falcons offense.
And yeah the Steelers defense deserves credit.
Cousins had two picks - one was just a weird pass into the dirt. Not sure if it was a missed read, or if a receiver ran the wrong route?
Cousins is lacking the same zip/velocity on his ball prob due to the achillies and he needs to gel with his team, we might see Penix sooner than later
Cousins has no arm strength.
They'd legit be better with Penix but they'll never do it so it works for me
Cousins has always relied heavily on great-to-elite WRs as his security blankets. Adam Thielen, Stefon Diggs, Justin Jefferson . . . and now he doesn't have one. There might be one in ATL WR room, but he obviously hasn't found him yet. Until he does, Cousins is just going to struggle. Same as it ever was.
Forgot, his other security blanket was Dalvin Cook.
Very encouraging first game, but The Football Team's defense was not great.
I think next week will be a tough one for our defense, Without pressure, Goff can shred our injury-depleted secondary.
Offensive-line/run-blocking better figure something out, Lions d-line can & will bring that pressure/containment.
I think the offense/passing game/playcalling could be the path to winning, as Detroit's secondary is still a vulnerability -but Baker will need time (and a running game would help).

All too true. Especially the bit about the OL. They played decent for their 2024 debut, but vs. DET they'll have to be better/more consistent, particularly when run-blocking.
But I think TB is a better team (has a better roster) than they did last season, and that team was right there with DET until the last 2 minutes. Without a running game and a pair of drops that would've led to scores.
Should be a really good game.
At this point, I'd be ok with losing competitively. The spots where we're thin, got a LOT thinner - and without Kancey we're a different team up front. Facing Frank Ragnow without Kancey is not a fun prospect. I would normally have agreed with you about our roster being better than last year, but with key defensive starters being injured, I'm not sure that's true right now.Very encouraging first game, but The Football Team's defense was not great.

But maybe we can steal one!
Just started watching the Lions/Rams game in the 3rd quarter...wow Lions defense looked so good. Goff is being Goff.
Could be a rough game.

Goff's been Goff. Decent, though he did try to throw the game away at least twice. ALR defense is gassed and LAR has lost a lot of starters in this one.
Montgomery ran over the gassed Rams, and Jahmyr Gibbs was trouble. We're gonna have problems.
Yes it seems like they forgot to block TJ Watt
As much as one player can do in the NFL, he almost won that game single-handedly for the Steelers. One helluva performance.
Let's not forget that Boswell was 6 for 6 on FGs with some long ones early on. Split the game MVP with Watt.

Absolutely, great game from Boswell saving an inept offense with Watt getting that inept offense the ball back repeatedly.
