Just saw this on Rotoworld.  Yes Cousins has shat the bed the past several weeks, but does Rah really expect Penix to come in and perform well enough to propel them to the South crown?  Did our path get easier ?  Thoughts ?

Sure glad we didn’t sign Kirk, more expensive, less productive, and at least a year away from being effective again.

Plus, there will be some cap impact. If nothing else, the $50 mil for this season.

Actually feel sorry for ol’ Kirk, even though having a rookie QB make a start against the Giants & The Football Team, could be a great scenario for us.

Also glad we didn't sign him.....I don't really feel bad for him at all, at worst he's walking away with 60+ million for this year and 27 mil next year. In fact when I initially read it the first thought I had was "how you like that Falcons?"..Also if they cut him before next league year they carry a 62 mil dead cap hit next year, if they cut him pre june 1s it's 65 mil and post june 1st is 40 mil dead with about 25 mil carry over in 2026. Atlanta also only currently has a projected 6.5 mil in cap space before a Cousins move and only currently have 36 players signed for next year, so will be interesting to see what they do given his no-trade clause...

I am truly surprised. OK, giants suck and you cant't lose to them at home but with three games left and all three must wins you bench one of the most experienced QBs in the league for a rookie... wow! OK, they might have seen something we do not know but this is a big gamble for them. let's hope they completely screw it up 😀

I might be wrong, but to me this is just another proof morris doesn't know what he is doing. he might be a good DC, but he is awful HC as we all know it well

we are going to see, thats for sure!

Big move for this season and then what happens next?

I am not sure who the decision-maker was behind drafting Penix, BUT isn't having a (hopefully) talented DRAFTED QB the best plan if/when you are  possibly taking the dead cap hit associated with cutting a 4 year, $180 million QB.

I think they call that the Trask Plan?

Never interfere with an opponent who is self-destructing.

Falcons have jacked up the ol’ credit card with a huge spending spree, and not only didn’t get the production, the future isn’t looking so bright either.

Of course, it could just be that they’re giving Kirk a rest and getting him as right as possible for the Football Team (soon to be Redskins), and maybe a Carolina team bent on an axe-grind/spoiler game.

I know which scenario I’d like to see play out!

Cousins gave them a shot of winning games down the stretch. Penix will play better at times but he can also be worse.

Agree with all of this...I get why Tampa took a Trask when they did...Brady was 43 at the time and retirement was a yearly off-season conversation, and who wouldn't want a potential QB of the future (at the time) to learn from the best who ever did it?  His salary was also considerably lower even with all the escalators. Penix pick at the time was a head-scratcher for sure, and I'm confident that pick was on Rah.  I feel like Morris has an MO now where he takes a QB his first year that he can tie himself to even though the team just dished out a 180 million contract (only difference between them and the Browns was the guaranteed money).  He did the same thing here, although at the time he had Lefty and Johnson that were both part of the dumpster fire first year.  The timing of the switch though when they're still in the race for the division is very questionable....as SR likes to say " the Falcons are Falconing". Hope it bites them and their owner in the ass

That's a risky decision. We all know rookies are prone to making mistakes. Let's hope Penix is no different than most rookie QBs and will turn the ball over as much or more than Cousins did in the past five games.

Just read this rumor, and personally would be surprised, but there’s a story that Cousins could be traded to CLE, PFN

If they do they'll have to be quick about it, as he's due a 10 mil roster bonus on March 17th ( trade window/new league year opens up March 12th )

“Sources: The Browns and QB Deshaun Watson have agreed to terms on a contract restructure, easing the salary cap burden for years to come.

The reworked deal also signals that Watson is expected to be on the #Browns next season. This is about the cap after his deal is up.”

@donkey_hunter Thanx for posting that DH....unless they are outright giving him a pay cut that's still a lot of dead money on the back end or void years.
