This is the last year D. Smith's contract is guaranteed. He could be release next year with no hit on the cap. With a cap value of $14mil in 2020, would you be willing to add another year of guaranteed money in return for a reduced cap hit this year? Or convert a large chunk to a signing bonus that is spread over the life of the contract?
If his contract was redone that allowed us to get a few more pieces, I'd be up for it.
