Panthers signed Clowney. Another guy that is better than any edge we have on the roster. I wanted Clowney last year. Great against the run, 9 and 1/2 sacks, could have had him last year for $4M.
I can see it coming. It’s week 8. We’re getting no pressure when rushing our front four. Everyone on here is complaining. “JTS still makes a play about every 4th week”. Why isn’t Yaya getting more pressure?” “Nelson is good for depth”. Well this was our chance to make a difference. During free agency.
Or even better. “Wasn’t Latu supposed be the savior?” I hope they have a plan
Even though he’s productive, can’t believe he got a 2 year deal. Sounds a little desperate, but it is Carolina. Also sounds a little early for them to try & become relevant?
I’m also hoping we have a plan for Edge, but hope is not a plan. We’ll know more in a few weeks.
I agree that I too hope the Bucs have a plan for edge.
Keep in mind that the Panthers gutted their defense this off season and they had to be aggressive signing free agents to replenish that side of the ball. As talented as Evero is as a DC he needed help and so far they have made four very good signings for that front seven (Clowney, Jewell, Wonnum, Robinson). As good as the Panthers defense was last year they might better this upcoming season.
Benefited from good players around him in BAL. Won't be as dominant in CAR

Carolina gave him a pocket full of cash and a two year deal. His attitude/urgency historically changes once he doesn’t need to play well.
we’ll see.
A couple of those signings are solid - I’m still out in Clowney…if nothing else, they kept us from adding some production. We needed to add some pressure that could help Yaya and/or the rotation to be improved.I agree that I too hope the Bucs have a plan for edge.

Canales knows what our plans are - and would think that he’s not just trying to improve, but also has an eye on keeping our Buc defense from improving.
@detrimental - kind of agree, but he’s been productive for a few years in a row now. Always great against the run. And would be our best pass rusher as we stand right now.
Clowney can drop into zone coverage as well so he would have been a good fit for Bowles scheme but I think the Bucs have their eyes set for a young edge rusher to plug in opposite of Diaby.
Based on the recent articles about jokers and JTS I think they view JTS purely as a situational player that can be moved around the line in pass rushing situations either as a standup rusher in the A GAP or as a nickel rusher with his hand in the dirt.
Definitely he would be. However, Last season was his first season the guy has played a full season since 2017. Guy just turned 31 so its not like his best ball is ahead of him. Bucs are better off trying find a long term solution there. JPP and Shaq were great for there 3-4 year service and Tryon hasn't shown he is the long term answer. Its time to find a home grown EDGE rusher for once.@detrimental - kind of agree, but he’s been productive for a few years in a row now. Always great against the run. @detrimental - Clowney is a guy you sign for 1 or 2 years and it adds some veteran experience. We have our young bull in Yaya. There’s no guarantee our 26th pick would be an edge that could give us quality snaps this year. Look at JTS. We need starters and depth at this positionz
Again, he's more a name than anything. And, pretty much has been his entire career.
Good on him for having a bounce back year being surrounded by A TON of talent.
The prior 4 seasons, he average 3.5 sack per year.
Let the Panthers give him 2/yrs at $20M.
For sure not arguing that. The Bucs just don't want to invest 10-12M potentially on a guy who has an inconsistent motor and production and you can't blame them for that. His price tag is just too high, we don't need another Devin White type guy on our team. Had we had actual cap space to use maybe he's worth throwing 8 mil around for a 1 year deal. Bucs are tight in cap space though so it was never really a realistic option from the jump. And I haaate pigeon holeing my team but Bucs have trade ammo to move up in the first if they want to draft a predicted falling Verse/Latu. Roster cuts are still happening across the league and trades can happen before/during the season. Hell, the Texans traded for Derek Barnett last year before the deadline and it saved them huge $$$ without dishing on Greenard a fat deal. We still have time to figure that out.@detrimental - Clowney is a guy you sign for 1 or 2 years and it adds some veteran experience. We have our young bull in Yaya.
