Gotta admire his aggressiveness, but it was stupid to not to take those 2 field goals. His decisions killed the momentum, lost the game and Detroit's chance to advance to their first SB. Wonder how his players actually feel about him today.

Good point. In a press conference prior to the game, he mentioned learning from Sean Payton. It appears he needs to study more.

yeah clearly he has had some gaffes

the Cowboys - Lions, going for 2 after being penalized.

Somehow not running out the clock correctly against Bucs, but lucky for him Todd Bowles on the other side. (to be fair, the game was over but why not fire shots at Todd when you get the chance)

the NFC Champ game not taking points against a superiors opponent

Now Detroit has been a shit franchise since it's existence so them making to the NFC Champ game has likely gotten Campbell coach of the year honors but man, he has made some bad decisions lately

he simply did everything wrong!

end of first half they pass on 1st down with all three timeouts in the hand. and then both 4th downs ...

this guy has made a huge turnaround in detroit, but someone should explain him that he is actually the one who stopped lions from going to vegas!

Many football fans are obsessed with incomplete statistics OFTEN called "advanced metrics. " Statistics that are often MISSING a key element of the actual decision making, but are sort of the nouveau riche language of NFL football.

"The analytics favor going for it" is a common 4th down refrain.  Those words are posted here often as a criticism of Bowles.

Purely off of memory, Lions went for it from the 49ers 30 on 4th and 3, I think? It was a choice maybe favored by the analytics BUT not by the circumstances, right? Led to it being as TWO score game with only minutes remaining?

If thats right the "advanced metric" that would say (based on the aggregation of many disparate circumstances) you should go for it there don't account for the two score change that, statistically speaking, should alter the Expected Value outcome given the time remaining.

In simpler terms, sometimes the CIRCUMSTANCES say the more conservative move is the better move AT THAT MOMENT from a potential outcomes (plural) point of view.

Still, what a great game with two great teams . .  one we almost beat the week prior

Can't treat the post-season like the regular season. Its do or die and possessions are scarce in that environment.

The coach should know best and there are certainly plenty of potential external factors that might come into play, like a lack of faith in his kicker, but pretty sure the 4th down decision late in the game sort of made the game "do or die" on that play.

There was another path, but again who knows the outcome
