Dashon Goldson thinks he is being targeted by NFL Mike Dyce - Dec 12th, 2013 at 2:39 pmGoldson_Zps7E5E2E29.JpgNov 17, 2013; Tampa, FL, USA; Tampa Bay Buccaneers free safety Dashon Goldson (38) rushes against the Atlanta Falcons during the second half at Raymond James Stadium. Tampa Bay Buccaneers defeated the Atlanta Falcons 41-28. Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports Tampa Bay Buccaneers safety Dashon Goldson has been repeatedly penalized by the NFL for his hits. He thinks his play was heralded before the rules were changed and now he is being targeted by the league. “I remember being on the good side of it, hearing commentators, analysts talking about how perfect, how good, how I do it the right way, and all of a sudden with the new rule I’m a dirty player, a nasty player, targeted and I’m not playing the game how it’s supposed to be played,” Goldson said, via Pat Yasinskas of ESPN.com. “I think that’s ridiculous, and [I'm] being targeted, I feel, because it’s been a few times people have been in the situation or worse situations than me and haven’t gotten penalized like I’ve been.” Goldson think that players and coaches respect his style. Of course that might be his teammates and not the people he is hitting. “I think the players, they understand the game and how it’s supposed to be played,” Goldson said. “They’re more on my side than anybody else, and coaches on top of that. “Now with the new rule, you do have some of those guys, as far as coaches, who complain about hits. And they’re the same guys I’m sure who are teaching their players how to hit and congratulating them when they make a big hit.” http://fansided.com/2013/12/12/dashon-goldson-thinks-targeted-nfl/?utm_source=FanSided&utm_medium=Network&utm_campaign=Around%20the%20Network

He re bearing being a good tackler? When, he's been a human penalty machine for quite sometime.  He is the poster child for who the league needs to go after because he is a repeat offender. Some of the accidents happen at high speed type things will never go away but guys who headhunt need to be worked over.  Suspensions are good because it starts to punish the team not just the player which the team doesn't care about. I'd actually like to see them get to the point where the sum of fines in the offseason translates into draft picks being lost. They would make morons like Goldson radioactive to teams and get them to change or get out of the league.

It's ridiculous how people are calling Goldson a moron for being a big hitter. Anyone who's ever played football before knows that when you go for a big hit contact to the helmet is going to happen sometimes. While his hit was effective look at revis "legal" hit on that Bills WR, that was one of the ugliest hits I've ever seen he just turned his body to the side, closed his eyes and did everything in his power to keep his head away from the other guys helmet. Goldson was an All-pro for a reason and now that he's a buccaneer everyone wants to talk crap about him

Remember when Mike Williams caught that slant route in San Fran and Goldson just destroyed him....

The game changes all the time. Players have to adapt. If they don't, they will be coaching high school teams, or become agents or whatever.

They aren't targets. They are repeat offenders. The reason they kjeep getting flags i s they keep doing stupid things (and yes kids, doing things against the rules is stupid. If they outlawed passing, throwing the ball would be stupid).

Its fun to hear the cracking of pads and helmets, but they are going to flag him when in doubt because of his priors. Dont mean to make him sound like a criminal. Unfortunately, there is no place for a John Lynch with these new rules.

dalbuc..i will agree to disagree..and being a long time nfl fan and pewter report  member ( which i always accept your opinions and have followed) ...you being a stat man and fan....one has to admit...with the wanky nfl ref calls that sre and have been progressively strange with the new york office trying to figure out what to do with their product which is a 'video gameish" high speed wreck....goldson. pollard and other big hitters have been called and tagged....hell lets agree to admit or disagree that Lynch, and( name any other big hitters that were media, fans and hof'd admired would be fined and targeted too!.....we know why "the big hits' were slashed off espn...and it's understood.....they are the last of a time..till it turns into total nfl controlled scoring game like (where no one gets hurt ) product...

If your style of play draws as many flags, fines & suspension as Goldsons does and you still refuse to change how you play you are a moron. It's obvious that how he plays now is not within the rules of the current league, you can argue all you want that the league is getting soft (I wouldn't disagree with that) but the fact remains the rules are the rule and everybody has to play under the same set. It's the way of the world adapt or die, Goldson and his ilk are a dying breed because they simply continue doing the same thing over and over, never learning from the punishments and then somehow think it's someone other than themselves that are the problem. They might have been great players in past generations but they're liabilities in todays league. Also, that reason he was All Pro was because everybody on that Niner D seemingly got individual praise for great team play when truth is it was simply a group of solid guys with a couple of great ones mixed in, he was undeserving and got the reward by association.NFL awards are a joke, just look at Tony Gonzalez being first team All Pro last year when Jimmy Graham had more yards & TDs on less catches, difference is Tonys team was doing well. The individual awards are given out to the name players from the best teams rather than the best players of the year regardless of team success.

Nighttrain Lane couldn't play CB in today's NFL either. Joe Namath couldn't play QB in the league as it stands today. Maybe Lynch couldn't play today. Not an issue to me, the game changes. The rules are the rules. The NFL has a 3/4 of a Billion dollar reason to make these rules but beyond that, what people aren't paying attention to, is that the league needs talent. If the most talented young athletes go into some other sport (futbol) the NFL shrivels up. If mom and dad won't let little Timmy play football because they fear his brains will turn to mush at age 50 then the NFL doesn't get the players it needs to success not next year but a decade from now.

Dashon isn't a dirty player. When you compare to guys like Brandon Merriwether who has given how many concussions with helmet to helmet hits or Bernard Pollard who has has taken out countless big named knees. I agree with Goldson, he is getting an unfair wrap. He hit's hard, but who has he injured?

He has more flags than anyone. It isn't unfair he's earned all the flags I've seen.  That is really the worst part. We signed this clown knowing he sucks in coverage and he's a hitter that doesn't target properly. Saying he's not as bad as bad as those other two clowns is like saying the Saurumon is less bad than Sauron so he's ok.

I feel bad for this guy. The league changes it's rules, and his stunning hits are now deemed evil.I knew when he was signed that this would become an issue. This nfl is for golf players and feminists, compared to ten years ago.
