For a player so highly touted as Garrett has been, by media pundits and certain draft-niks – not sure what the hell they are watching – he has blazing speed off the edge – yet does nothing with it – he’s a measurable freakish athlete from an athletic profile marker standpoint – however, he is often handled/blocked one-on-one with ease – takes poor angles - it shows in his ability to keep contain on run support and maintain his pass rush lanes - red flag for me as it shows a lack of football IQ – does not utilize his hands – lacks understanding of leverage - his disruption or stats often comes when protection breaks down and or he is getting a free path to the backfield. He stops moving his feet an gives up on plays when he is stonewalled after his initial surge. Does not set the edge and will be a huge liability as a run defender. Does not give maximum effort or hustle. Even more perplexing for me is how he came about his production – in 2016 just 33 tackle, 18 solos with 8.5 sacks. Considering he had an 8 tackle (7 solo) with 4.5 sack game against Texas-San-Antonio - and just 4.0 sacks in 9 other games last season. A deeper look into his production – he recorded 15 sacks in 24 games played against Power 5 teams – and recorded 16 sacks in 10 games versus non-Power 5 teams.
