So all it takes is a mobile QB....interesting .... apparently Kaepernick didn't get the memo to Flacco before the last Superbowl.....
Russell Wilson was a major contributor to them winning the SB. He fit perfectly for the style of play they wanted to run down the stretch. Not every QB has to put up 350yd games with 4 tds to be considered a key part of a title run. I think there are probably just a handful of QBs who fit in with Seattle's group and would have still won this SB. Russell Wilson was hardly just along for the ride. Very cerebral. Very efficient. Very clutch. Leader of that offense. Dude deserves as much credit for their championship as that defense.
Every now and then, you post a gem... this is surely one of those times. Well done!!
There's probably at least 10 other QB's who could have won the Superbowl with that Seahawks team. Wilson wasn't only there for the ride, but let's not act like he was a huge reason they won the SB.
This isn't about one game...its about the journey. Wilson was very instrumental in getting them there.
TK, I would argue Denver had a surprisely poor game plan. They barely tried to RUN the ball (which the Bucs DID do in our game), playing right into Seattle's strength. Denver's less-than-elite receivers were not able to shake free on their quick routes, and Manning's less-than-elite (ONLY in his latter years) arm was exposed, as was Denver's less-than-great O'line.
No game plan works when your quarterback has 2 seconds or less to get the ball out of his hands and can't avoid the pressure that is coming. You can't move the pocket. You can't sprint out. You can't keep the defensive linemen honest in their rush and in their lanes. They can chose whatever path they want to the spot they know you are going to be standing in 2 seconds. You literally only have one read. Your presnap. So you play right exactly into the hands of what they set that Seattle defense up to do. Play back and smoke you when you catch the ball. They sit on the small stuff and punish you for taking it until your receivers literally don't want it any more.
Agreed. Denver's O'line had a very poor game.
I dont disagree with your assessment...but to be fair, Seattle's DL has been that good this year.
Good, absolutely. Very good in fact. They do not have a dominant defensive linemen, but can put 4 very good linemen on the field for every snap of the football. It was the most dominant complete game Super Bowl performance I've witness by a single unit. I would certainly not consider the Seattle front the most dominating to take the field for a Super Bowl.

Simple minds tend to latch on tight to simple arguments..........

Indeed! Wilson is as cool as a cucumber when under pressure. When the play is over, I can see those gears between the ears already thinking on the next play. Most running QBs are just a little out-of-control; not Wilson!

I think that is a fair statement. They are very good, but I think some of those NYG lines might have been better. One of the differences is the back end. The DL for the NYG was better, but the secondary was far worse. I am not sure I have seen a defense as balanced as this one with how all the units complement each other so well.

Yes. I have to deal with you here on almost a daily basis. :P

With barely over 1,000 posts you haven't been doing it too long :P
Defense can still win championships , as this Superbowl shows.
GREAT defense can still win championships
You could even make the argument this Seattle Defense was top 10 all-time. So yes, All-time great defenses can still win championships. Since this is the first time a defense-led team won the Superbowl since the 2002 Buccaneers, over a decade, I'd say it's safe to say this is an exception to the rule.

But you don't have to ... someone a little less simple minded than you would know that. Let me know if you need me to explain to you what that "x" in the corner does , dimwit. Lol

Don't be like that. I might disagree with you 99% of the time. I certainly enjoy poking fun at you. But I appreciate your value to this forum. Let's be frenemies.
Looks like people forget our Bucs in 2002 even existed."We're the best defense since the '85 Bears," defensive end Michael Bennett said after the game, via CBS Sports' Will Brinson. That's the type of company the Seahawks' defense is keeping now. We will talk about these Seahawks like we do the 1970s Pittsburgh Steelers and the 2000 Baltimore Ravens. By beating a historic offense, the Seahawks wrote a legacy of their own.
