A number of rumors have linked Mike Smith to the Jacksonville job and indeed he does have an interview with them coming up. So assuming that Mike Smith leaves us for a coaching job, do we have an in house candidate or do we look for someone outside to assume the duties. The defense made some great strides the 2nd half of the season and I'd really hate to see us get someone that wanted to change the defensive direction we are headed. Looking at the coaching bio's no defensive coach currently on staff has defensive coordinator experience at the NFL level although some have extensive NFL experience.

Out of Hoke, Maxie, Hayes or Duffner do we have an in house favorite or is there someone else we should target?

After reading the bio's, I think I'd like Hoke to get a shot if we stay in house. He just seems like he'd continue the same aggressive style of defense we saw under Smith. I hope we get another year under Mike Smith, but I'm thinking he does want to be Head Coach again and he's going to be hard to replace if he goes somewhere else.
