make some of Bowles harshest critics pause.

It doesn't and shouldn't.

On the defense's second play, starting cornerback Amik Robertson left the contest and wouldn't return after breaking his arm. He will undergo surgery Sunday, according to Campbell.

Robertson joined a long line of injuries, notably on defense, as Detroit was playing with 16 players on the injured reserve list. Still, Campbell refused to make any excuses and said the loss didn't hurt any extra, based upon their No. 1 seeding.

It's insane to compare these two. Bowles had his full defense and couldn't get off the field once outside of foaled forth downs IN OUR RED ZONE.

We had almost our whole defense in the playoff game.

I am not sure what to make of that claim because they certainly did not BUT the  point is that Bucs defense starts at a much lower talent level (REBUILDING) than the Lions (SUPER BOWL) and then the entire back end is basically wiped and you can even see that IN THE GAME and the defense still outperformed (scoring) the "doing more with less" Lions defense.

But with that said here you go:

1. On the D-line, the Lions had injuries and What did they do?  They TRADED for an ALL-PRO edge. That is exactly NOT they way the Bucs have responded to injury.

2. Our LB corp is an end of his career LVD . . and we still needed him to make a )PI) big stop in the Z on fourth down. the other LB is a PLATOON of Brit and Russell , NEITHER OF WHO ARE STARTING LBS in the NFL.

That means or LB corp is a MEDIOCRE coverage LB (LVD with his 53 coverage grade from PFF) and two plodders. That is a HUGE reason we couldnt get off the field

The Lions LB corp is the same as their early season LB corp, right?

3. in the DB area we have no Whitehead (our big FA move) and an injured AWJ at safety and Mike Edwards. We start with our two CBs but of course lose Dean to Hayes and they go right after Hayes and score.

The lIons have Vildor in for Carlton Davis

THE POINT ABOUT BOWLES THOUGH is made by this comment of yours:

Posted by: @ehinote

Bowles intended Dennis to backup up David and Britt, until Bowles realized after a few games that Britt was a one trick pony.

Bowles didnt realize "after a few games that Britt was a one trick pony."  LOL. Bowles describes Britt as a "one trick pony" before the season.  Thats why the Bucs were forced to PLATOON that position out of the gate.

""He's definitely in competition. I mean, K.J. [Britt] is our starter, obviously, but we look for SirVocea [Dennis] to play quite a bit this year in a lot of packages that we have."

Thats also why Licht said this: AT THE END OF THE SEASON, right?

"And what he [Todd Bowles] has done with what we have, I think, has been remarkable."

The difference between the Lions and the Bucs defenses is that the Lions are TRYING to get to a Super Bowl so they are ALL-IN and you can see that by the trade for the edge rusher when their big guy goes down.

The Bucs are REBUILDING after winning a SB and they rebuilt the offense FIRST . . . . . LICHT's POINT . . . while still getting to the playoffs and IN THE PLAYOFFS with their INJURED defense of mostly back up defenders OUT PERFORMING the Lions injured defense, right?

apples to apples . .  but some of Bowles's dtractors saying that the Lion were doing fine despite the injuries.

NOT AGAINT THE SAME TEAM (WAS) one week after another . . . .even with that "terrible" Todd Bowles scheme

@bucsbits - who exactly was injured for us? Do you even know? You keep saying that, but I gave you a breakdown of our minimal defensive injuries this year. Tell me who I’m missing?

And get away from game to game talk. Look at career and tendencies. Bowles has been at multiple places where he would not make corner and edge key positions. His preference is DTs and safeties. He stops the run, not the pass. His defenses are top 10 in rush defense and bottom 10 in pass defense. We know what Bowles likes to do.

I generally agree with your comments on edge rusher etc BUT i think the difference is that I attribute the current defensive play MORE to missing talent (as I lay out above) and you attribute it to SCHEME.

YOU MAY BE RIGHT and I may be WRONG. I think the Bucs seem to agree with me based on Licht's comments, but they may not and they may actually be wrong TOO

The key difference though stems from that CORE BELIEF because I am approaching all of this discussion from the perspective of what gets THIS team closer to the Super Bowl whereas you and others are more focused on Bowles, ie HE IS UNFIXABLE, as shown by his "career and tendencies."

So, in my world the "game to game" talk is the MOST relevant because it shows that the loss to WAS was not as bad as some might have thought because WAS is a pretty good team and they ran up massive points on the Lions. WE HAVE A DEFENSE THAT BY CHOICE is not loaded with talent (Licht's quote) and we still outperformed the Lions defene against the same opponent. Thats says. . . add some talewnt . . and we probably beat a very good team. In fact, IF THE OFFENSE just plays better at the end we win. The Lions are almost out of it after an incredibly crazy second quarter.

So, as DH often says this is the quintessential "agree to disagree" discussion because in your world "career and tendencies" matter because the focus is BOWLES defense. I dont probably agree with that point - we won a SB with Bowles as DC and playing a lot  of M2M with Davis and Dean and blitzing etc and now we are playing a lot of zone - but I am pointing out the different perspectives to make it clear that we would never likely agree because of those perspectives, not because of arguing for the sake of arguing. Just different UNDERLYING belief.

Hope that make sense

Who were we missing? Dean got hurt in the second half. That's one player who's made of glass.

Who else were we missing? Whitehead? Izien?

Bowles realized after a few games that Britt was a one trick pony.

do you honestly believe this?

I ask because its a critical difference in the way one views the Bucs

Its seems obvious to me - and I posted Bowles' quote before the season and then Licht's after - that Britt platooning with Dennis out of the gate is PROOF that Bowles was going into this season MAKING DUE WITH WHAT WE HAVE  (Licht's quote after the season)

You seem to believe that Bowles WANTED Britt to be the starter because he misjudged his deficiencies?

Bowles had his full defense

lmao

Fire, I posted the breakdown but keep in mind you said the Lions defense was BETTER WITH LESS, right?

and most importantly you said said that as PROOF that Bowles was the problem, right?

I don't think the injured Lions and the Rams defense are any more talented than ours and YET their respective coaches are finding ways to keep offenses on their heels - guessing.

Not last night, right?

@bucsbits - I appreciate this post and I hear you. I just hear more of a fan than a football guy. FYI… We played soft zone in 2020 as well. The difference in the playoff run (after the horrible defensive display against Washington in the WC round) was that we stopped blitzing so much. We rushed primarily with our front four and played coverage with 7 the rest of the way. I love your Buccaneer passion. Let’s have a good offseason.

@bucsbits - that didn’t happen. Dennis played like 5 snaps in the first game. And not many in the second game. Then Bowles started seeing the writing on the wall. Bowles misses player talent all the time. A dummy like me has said since we drafted Britt that he would only be a special teams guy and backup LB.

Yes agree with this too.  That "front four" included JPP and Barrett and the threat of White.  And as I recall, White missed that "horrible defensive display" in the Washington game and then came back and had double digit tackles and 2 INTS.

No matter what one thinks of WHITE as a player .  . that production is also MISSING this year . .  and in fact was exploited.

So, these comaprisons are of a 2020 team that is JPP, Barrett, White and LVD and AWJ and even Davis and Dean. . all playing at their absolute best . . to NO Barrett or JPP or White's production and  ONLY an older much slower LVD, an injured AWJ and Dean  . . . .and Davis traded away for . . . a WR, right?

It shouldn't be controversial that LESS talent on the field +  less ability to mix it up ("rushed primarily with our front four and played coverage with 7 the rest of the way")

Well, we will have to agree to disagree there. I dont think you are a dummy AND I think that Bowles and Licht agreed with you about Britt . . and Bowles even suggested as much BEFORE the season.  And Licht after.

He will be out of the league and dealing with his horses in a massive barn purchased by the Bucs!

BUT . .  yes PLEASE bring in anyone who can replace the production he provided in 2020, especially in the playoffs
