I see people are once again letting age scare them away. Hester is still the best at what he does and doesn't appear to be slowing down anytime soon. I'd take him today. That's not to say McCluster is a bum. He does his job very well. But he's no Hester.

Hester has 1 return TD in his last 2 seasons.

Field position is more important in terms of returns. TDs are so hit and miss and you can't depend on your special teams to consistently provide you with scoring. But if he's giving you an extra 27.6 yards per kick return and an extra 14.2 yards on punt returns that sets up your offense nicely.....And that 1 return is 1 more than this team has over the same time period...

Dexter had 2 return TD's last season.

But he wasn't nearly as consistent of a threat in the return game. Again, it's about field position.

I give up.  If you don't see the difference in the 2 of them, its hopeless.Dexter 2 return TD's last season.    Hester 1 return TD in his last TWO seasons.Dexter is 25              Hester is 31

And the 2 years prior McCluster had 0 TDs.....AGAIN, I see I have to say this slowly because you aren't smart enough to understand....FIELD....POSITION....IS....MORE.....IMPORTANT...IN.....TERMS...OF....RETURNS.......TDS.....ARE......SO.....HIT......AND.....MISS....AND.....YOU.....CAN'T......DEPEND.....ON......YOUR.....SPECIAL.....TEAMS.....TO....CONSISTENTLY...............PROVIDE.......YOU.......WITH........SCORING...

That is because the previous regime didn't know how to use him. Andy Reid always loved him, and when he got to KC, he let him loose.

In Hester's defense I'm pretty sure he at least one TD called back this year to a penalty, and one last year as well I believe.

McCluster and it's not even close. If you watch Hester you can see he's nothing without his "next level" speed. This year he was ineffective. What's worse he was given a shot at both DB and WR at different points and was an utter failure. You have to be a truly special returner to have a roster spot and contribute in no other way.McCluster... disclaimer: love him as a fellow Larghetto alum. But he's also still hugely effective as a returner, and can play wild card on offense. Tedford has said repeatedly he intends to develop our system and roster around speed in space. McCluster epitomizes that, and I don't know if we have that on our roster right now. Maybe Demps if he actually intends to play; I think the current staff won't be as rigid as Schiano was with using him.

LMAO @ 27.6 yards/KR and 14.2 yards/PR as being "ineffective".

So what? Page had 25 YPR... and he's mediocre to below average. Hester in his hay day was a threat to score, and it's the only reason you'd hold a guaranteed game day spot for a guy that plays no more than 10 plays per game. He didn't score last year save for one punt return.

You obviously don't know football if you can't tell the difference between a Eric Page & a Devin Hester kick return....And it's fairly obvious as to why you left out the 10.9 punt return avg for Page when compared to Hester's 14.2 is...well they don't compare.

I guess Hester could be a one year stop gap. But he is old. Not a big Mc Cluster fan at all. Just as I suspected he would be,  he is constantly injured. No thanks We have enough midgets on this team already. And an injured midget is worthless. The best ability a football player can have is availability.

Hester is old but he has no mileage on him. He's never taken much of a beating because all he does is return a couple kicks each game. I wouldn't worry about age in his case.I'd still rather have McCluster or that white kid from Tennessee because I think Tedford could find ways to use them on offense.

McCluster would be the ideal choice IMO.

In the end, I'd be happy to see either one of these guys back there.  It would be an obvious upgrade over the usual riff raff we put back there.

Way off.  Hester played WR for the Bears, along with returning kicks. He has way over 2000 yards receiving, on top of the return yards.

I know they try using him sparingly as a WR , but he sucks at it . Most of those receiving yards are off bubble screens.

Well, if 2807 yards receiving is being used "sparingly".  I agree.

I'd like McCluster but I wouldn't want to break the bank on him. He's a fumbler and unreliable on offense. Hester might be a better choice if he comes cheaper, but he isn't worth much on offense, and he's getting a bit older. I wouldn't be too upset if we just stuck with Page though. He's an idiot, but he might have learned a thing or two last year, and I'm a fan of developing our own players, especially at non-essential positions, rather than breaking the bank on luxury positions. That's how we end up with a punter making 3.5 million, a mediocre free safety making 8 million, and a guard that probably isn't going to play more than 6 games for us that has made 16 million so far.
