I don't see what the end game here is.
get one more year from White, a contract year?
Two likely options
1. White plays the same while the Bucs suck and now you have a shitty player with a shitty attitude on a shitty team. This is what I think most likely happens.
2. If White plays great the Bucs will be duped into a shitty contract.
That is what happens when you make a shitty draft pick.

Little Miss Sunshine
Just to be clear, there was a very obvious potential end game you didn't see. I pointed it out. You spun it to the negative, of course leaving out 'they get decent play from him for one year."
JC . . you've also suggested the Bucs should have gone with a mystical Eagles trade (ie not taken Winston). So, when you need a criticism you're okay departing from the real world whether by creating a fictional alternative path or by ignoring an obvious potential outcome
That's because you're starting with "Licht sucks" so everything from you must be "Liccht bad"
The Winston pick was 100% lock. Its was a bad pick. it was GOOD choice to move on from him. Now, its not even on your radar that the Bucs may be doing the same thing with white
Google "eagles bucs 2015 trade" and tell me how fictional and mythical the results are. Eagles 1st round pick in 2016 was #2 overall by the way. Don't think Mariota would have improved that much because the Titans picked #1.

so you're IGNORING the other parts of the post to go even further down your "I hate Licht" rabbit hole
there's reporting on Eagles allegedly offering both Bucs and Titans picks, but if you look you'll also see Licht saying there we were communications (not what the offer was, if any) BUT that it was NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN
I have posted MULTIPLE times that the Bucs never pass on Winston in that scenario
Its critical to your position to suggest they could've though BECAUSE your motive is "I hate Licht" :-)
AS I pointed out you omitted a likely real world path for White . . because that would be inconsistent with "I hate Licht" When I brought it upo you offered ONLY the "I hate Licht" scenarios lol
JC, in the real world part of NOT being perceived as a loon is being . . . RRASONABLE. Part of being reasonable is allowing for other outcomes or rationale, particularly when they are evident in the real world
Glennon got his chance to start over a 1st round pick . . and busted out
The Bucs went down the White path with Winston . . and walked from him

So this just moves from your crazy trade speculation to Florio's trade speculation, there still isn't any factual information out there. But there is significant differences between the two. You had it as a "Herschel Walker type" trade, while Florio's is less significant:
"Per a source with knowledge of the situation, the Eagles offered the following to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for the first pick in the draft: the 20th pick in this year’s draft; Philly’s first-round pick in 2016; quarterback Sam Bradford; and another player on the roster."
So you think going from #1 overall to #20 with only more draft pick and Sam Bradford and other trash? That's fuggin' laughable. For the third overall pick in 2021, the Dolphins moved down to #12 overall, two additional first rounders, and a third rounder. That's a haul worth trading for.
If he has a great year to get the $100M contract it's fool's gold.
And, hopefully it's with another team.
Linebacker is one of the easiest positions that translates to the next level from college-NFL. I have no doubt that we could find a rookie LB in this draft that would at White's level or better. White makes highlight reel type of tackles and gets credit for finishing plays via sack/TFL. But really in the grand scheme of things, literally, Todd Bowles is the mastermind in designing these opportunities. Dude wants to get paid 100M+ because our genius DC schemed for this guy to get a free rush lane untouched? Please. That's why I was livid when we took this dude over the best EDGE rusher in the draft.Sure, and they have a lot of needs. Any draft pick spent on a linebacker doesn't go towards the other needs. You may not be underrating White, but you are overrating the other alternatives IMO. I'm OK with using a Day 2 pick on a LB because we'll need one for 2024, but a Day 2 rookie is not going to be ready to start in 2023 and a barrel scraper FA is going to do nothing but make everybody regret that we didn't keep White around for another year. Maybe we can bring back Barrett Ruud?Well don't keep me in suspense. Who can we get whose better?
You are aware the NFL draft is next week, yes?
White has regularly graded out among the worst at his position is damn-near everything except blitzing. He's a very good blitzer. The other 90+% of snaps aren't going to be very difficult to replace.
Ask him to play zone coverage or any other responsibility and its him out of position. There are at least 2-3 prospects in this draft that I think are going to be good players right away at ILB. We're better off finding that guy and allow us to be less predictable with our blitz packages. Most of the smart teams that we play, know that #54 is most likely playing coverage while 45 is rushing. It'd be nice if we could use David more in a blitz package but it'd hurt our pass D b/c 45 is always out of position.
That's the question of the day - what is the end game.I don't see what the end game here is. 4 years of film prove that he's not a good player despite elite traits. Now he's being malcontent. If he has a great year to get the $100M contract it's fool's gold. GM's get into bad contract because they evaluate players just on contract years and it's a false reading. The only thing White provides at this point is whatever draft capital he can yield back. But Licht has his head so far up his ass he's not going to be proactive here.
For Licht I think it's pretty simple and straight forward. Licht isn't going to make the call on his top ten pick before his rookie contract is done. He gave Winston and OJ Howard their full time and then made the decision about whether to keep them or not. He's doing the same with White. Let him play out his rookie deal and then make the decision to give him a 2nd contract or not. If they don't, they'll get the comp pick. No haggling. No trade. Not complicated. Even if at the end it costs the Bucs more money, they're just going to let it play out.

This is probably right, but who knows?

Only problem with this is your basing your decision off of his contract year. It's a terrible thing to do. Bucs had a similar situation with Marcus Jones. After 4 years you knew he wasn't the guy. In his contract year he was unblockable. He signed an extension that is equivalent to $20M per year today. He had 3 sacks the next year and the Bucs ended up cutting him.
Not sure they would be basing it on his contract year and even if that is true you say he sucks and its not really a key position anyway, so that would mean its more likely they get the best play they can out of him and then dont give him the big deal (one reason he would ask for a trade now is he sees the same thing).
everyone saw him loaf. Sapp called him out

at least we have you recognizing a different potential "end game." lol
You've moved on to 'they will just make a dumb decision in the future" but at least we've moved on from this:
"I don't see what the end game here is. "

Marcus Jones door: He balls out and gets a big contract that he isn't worth. This is the most disastrous outcome.
Gaines Adams door: Realize he's a bust and get whatever you can for him. In this case it was pick #64. This is the best outcome.
Kwon Alexander door: Let him walk and get a 4th round comp pick. We get the least compensation and waste the 2023 cap space on him.
