Licht had 2 great seasons of drafting and FA sandwiched by 6-7 seasons of pure idiocy.
And I stand by this... 90% of the good picks he made just fell to him (Winfield, Evans, Wirfs, Godwin). Most casual fans were screaming at the TV to draft these guys.

Well, if this year is a throw away as you say, that would be the reason to make sure you trade him now so you can get something for him. If you wait until next year and let him walk for nothing just so he could play in a throw away year that would be mismanagement. Licht should be fired for that if that was the case.
They have three years of tape. They have to go by that and not bank on some kind of hope that year four he is going to be a different player. They have to make the call on White one way or the other. Sign him or trade him. Playing the waiting game is the worst strategy. It's not even a strategy at all.

not to mention how many players in a contract year turn it on, just to revert back to their non contract year play after getting their payday.
If you listen top SR talk about the last contract given to Doug Martin you'll get some insight into what's going on at OBP. According to SR, there were known to be problems with Martin but Licht really had to give him the contract anyway because they had a new coach . . .
the current new coach refers to White as a top 2 or 3 defender and leader . .
