Kim Klement-USA TODAY SportsWe're going position by position on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers roster, trying to determine whether the Bucs improved this offseason. Today's position group: quarterback2014 roster: Josh McCown, Mike Glennon, Mike Kafka2015 roster: Jameis Winston, Mike Glennon, Seth LobatoLast year, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were desperate enough to sign Josh McCown. They apparently didn't like any of the quarterbacks in the draft, and Lovie Smith had a history with McCown, who was coming off a stellar year in Chicago. The Bucs hoped he could build off that year, and just execute the offense he was given while Glennon was forced to sit and learn.Needless to say, things did not quite work out that way. McCown turned out to be a total bust, starting 11 games, throwing 14 interceptions to just 11 touchdowns, adding ten fumbles and just some horrid play behind one of the worst offensive lines in the NFL.McCown was never better than Glennon, even though the Bucs kept trotting him out there instead of the second-year player. Glennon wasn't actually good himself, though probably the offensive line had something to do with that as well. Glennon at least managed to throw more touchdowns (10) than interceptions (6) in his five starts, but none of his production inspires exactly. The Bucs were so clear about their dislike for him that he actually spent the entire second half of the season on the bench, even though McCown was probably playing the worst of any quarterback in the NFL.But this offseason the Buccaneers did something to finally get the quarterback position to where it needs to be: they drafted a quarterback with the number one overall pick. A good one, too. Not a real project, but someone who should be able to step and be immediately productive, even if there will be some growing pains.The Bucs now have a talented, young player they can genuinely feel positive about.
