This site has fallen. Ive been a dedicated follower of PR since the OLD boards. This site used to be top notch with a great magazine and awesome Bucs coverage, now it is being completely carried by Michael and a few other good posters within the community. The support from the owners of this site are showing us that this site is merely a hobby and an afterthought, not something they take seriously and have pride in. The spam is constant now, the lack of moderators is alarming. I am trying to get Bucs news not Gucci loafers. I have been an Insider and to tell you the truth its really not worth it. This site isnt really worth it anymore. The negatives outweigh the positives now, which is sad. I used to love this site. The various personalities and differing opinions on subjects about the Bucs made visiting here worthwhile. From Chrispy to Java, it was actually fun. Not anymore. Take care guys, off to find a better Bucs site. Any suggestions?
It's a free site and few people actually paying for it's services so you shouldn't be surprised they scaled back with how the economy has been in the last 4 years. Blocking spam is much harder than you think. Don't give up man, now that the Bucs.com board is gone, this is the best spot for discussion.
I hear you man. I actually run a site with 200k + visits a day and there are ways to handle it. It just seems that PR doesnt want to take the necessary steps to take care of it. I actually enjoy the posters and seeing the different views that i might not have thought of myself. Ive learned alot here. I just find myself getting frustrated on this continuing problem. PR if you read this, and you need help combating this problem, let me know. I would love to help fellow Bucs fans.
All PR needs to do is turn of the damn filter to not allow a person that just joined to post threads.

So do you let new users post after a set amount of time on the boards? This creates "sleeper" bots in waiting. Captcha and NoSpam! works well against this. It sucks having to go thru the captcha system every time you post but its a step in the right direction.A good friend of mine posted this a while back. Moderators should look into systems like this and pass it along http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=124828

Normally they would have to wait about 2 months and have a set # of post. But PR could also monitor it to where only approved members could post. The 49ers Board is a great example. Its a tough process to get in that board and typically you're denied access. Plus you could make the go through another approval process after that.

Buy the Gucci loafers. I hear they make a great Xmas present.
Today's spam is really bad. I haven't seen it like this, ever. Ouch.
luxury that of Prada the is so judge luxury global
Unfortunately, I don't think PR has any type of experienced IT people and may not be able to afford hiring one. The original builders of the new site made a complete mess (anyone remember the Kunena forums, wtf was that), though the site is functional. Most of the site glitches like Captcha, the silly bottom bar, messed up polls formatting, odd ordering of comments on articles, could be fixed fairly quickly. This forum software (smf) needs to be updated to the latest version. The spam system needs to be fixed asap, at the same time I would try to see how hard it would be to update their SMF forum software. Hopefully they have a test site somewhere and can get someone to fix it up, document their changes, test it, and roll it out to the live site.
I might be misremembering, but I thought Scott said recently that they are completely relaunching the site this offseason.
It is concerning how this problem has such a simple fix, yet nothing is done
Don't worry, OP. PR will be giving their usual lip service about how they care about the boards and will handle to spam. Be patient, grasshopper.
O don't even care about how to stop it from happening if it was deleted in a timely manner. The problem is that there are so few moderators that this stuff will be here until 3SK logs on several hours from now. They need to entrust a few more people to moderate the spam.Another option would be to have an option for all posters to flag a thread as spam, and if 10 people flag it as spam it gets deleted. Anyone posters found to misuse the spam flag would be banned. I doubt PR has the know how to create a system like that though.
