Interesting to look back at the understandable Egbuka shock and how all those must have pass rushers are doing. Very early on but Egbuka was 100% the right pick, especially given that Godwin just got back on the field. He is on track of OROY (loooong way to go tho) and, at the moment, compares favorably to Chase's rookie season
"Chase had 17 catches for 297 yards and four touchdowns through four games. Compare that to Egbuka, who has 18 catches for 282 yards and four touchdowns and they are neck and neck with each other."
From a "reach" to a "WR3" . . . to OROY candidate
Offensive Rookie of the Year
- WR Emeka Egbuka, Buccaneers (+300)
- QB Jaxson Dart, Giants (+600)
- QB Cam Ward, Titans (+2200)
- RB Ashton Jeanty, Raiders (+280)
- RB Omarion Hampton, Chargers (+500)
As an aside, Coen's first signature move with the Jags was trading UP for Travis Hunter . . . not sure that is working out SO FAR (heavy emphasis on so far).
So far . . . Licht and the Bucs looking like geniuses on Egbuka, but they also seemed to have hit on players like Parrish and Morrison.
That was a Gladstone move. Travis isn’t built to play both ways in the pros. He’s also a lot like McMillan from a body type so, him being a #2/3 WR makes sense but, you certainly don’t trade up for that kind of thing. Young Gladstone wanted to make a splash but Hunter has a third round grade written all over him.
It was good pick then and it's a great pick now
Looking back you seemed to be on top of the argument that the defensive talent wasnt that great or maybe I should say that there wasnt a lot of standout differences between many of the defensive options.

Yep.
Was saying for months this kid was going to be a baller out of the gate.
He hasn’t disappointed.

Such a horrible pick/trade package.

Gladstone is Coen's guy, so . .
its way too early but what happens with the Jags when they are not getting three turnovers a game? Coen might have the answers, but if not he's got some issue he didn't have with the Bucs including a $200+ million QB and ownership of moves like Hunter, if they dont pan out.

SO happy to have been surprised by the pick (thought it would be Golden), but NOT surprised he’s absolutely balling! Saw his interview where he said he stayed at OSU in order to develop - he said knew, early, that he could have been a WR1 by transferring, but knew if he could get on the field with the WR’s he had to battle at OSU, it would make him better.
He is crazy smooth!
BucBuckeye.

Obviously a great combo of BPA and Need, as the FO knew that Godwin had a 2nd major procedure on his ankle (thanks, Todd).
Watching his film, you could see he was as "pro-ready" as it gets.
This kid is gonna be special.

I think Coen is going to do well there. But yeah, there are some elephants in the room already. Think about Travis in your head, then think about him being a two way super star in today’s NFL. Like, he’s not built like Ramsey or even Deion. He’s sleek and sinewy, like Waddle maybe? I think they will find out early (maybe they already have) that Hunter should be playing WR and WR only.
Trevor Lawrence is another elephant. He has his moments but he also panics way too much. Coen will get it figured out but he probably shouldn’t be picking fights with Salah (sp), I don’t like his chances there.

Ohio St produces elite WRs and everything I saw from him was elite. Torched my Ducks.
Kudos to Licht for going for the best player and not for need. Not that Campbell has been bad but Egbuka is elite.

Let's not write him off just yet. Jaguars are playing well and he's giving them some plays.
I think they should just play him on defense only. That will also shield him from injury.
I think the GM/HC/OC were trying to mak their #1 feel seen with his nutty idea to play both sides of the ball as a rookie in the NFL - Hunter may one day be elite at both - but now everyone on the building should agree to reassess and shift the player to one side.

Sometimes, for elite talent, you make exceptions.
