That was a Gladstone move.  Travis isn’t built to play both ways in the pros.  He’s also a lot like McMillan from a body type so, him being a #2/3 WR makes sense but, you certainly don’t trade up for that kind of thing. Young Gladstone wanted to make a splash but Hunter has a third round grade written all over him.

Such a horrible pick/trade package.

Let's not write him off just yet. Jaguars are playing well and he's giving them some plays.

I think they should just play him on defense only. That will also shield him from injury.

I think the GM/HC/OC were trying to mak their #1 feel seen with his nutty idea to play both sides of the ball as a rookie in the NFL - Hunter may one day be elite at both - but now everyone on the building should agree to reassess and shift the player to one side.

Sometimes, for elite talent, you make exceptions.

Its definitely way too early to write the book on Coen as. HC, so that is the obvious limitation in my opinion, but to start it off by TRADING up for a player that would be so unusual in the NFL was definitely a "go big or go home" type choice.

At a minimum, its easy to see Coen's skill in the Jags run game, but at least early on here the QB has maybe been flat or even regressed and a substantial part of their wins have been turnovers.

If Coen was judged by the Red Board standard, the comments would be about playing some weak/hurt teams, getting a lot of turnovers (that come from the defense that he doesnt control) and the focus would probably be - just like it is now with the Bucs - the run of games immediately before them, Chiefs, Seahawks and Rams.  Let see how they do.

I hope BOTH teams succeed!!

Not writing him off, but definitely not worth the trade (from a draft capital perspective).

Need to have him settle on a position for the next year or two, and then try and develop from there.

This was Coen on Hunter

"When you go through the evaluation process of Travis on both sides of the ball, you say, 'Yes, I would take him as a defensive back and I would take him as a receiver,'" Coen continued.

"Ultimately, it came down to we want to get a player and be the best player that he can be. He feels he can do some phenomenal things on both sides of the ball, which we appreciate. We want to give him that platform, while also knowing that when your best players are some of your hardest workers and are guys that truly love the game. That love every aspect of it. Eat, breathe and sleep this thing. That's who he is."

I dont know much about Hunter, but the description Coen offers (a "player " and "truly loves the game" and "hardest worker")is the right one (if true) for a top pick.

Lots of time to sort it out. I was only identifying it as a key difference to his time at the Bucs

Count Arians as a Coen fan

"Adams asked Arians to pick his top NFL Coach of the Year candidate through four games. Arians chose Coen, citing his prowess at crafting a run game and how he’s gotten Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence on the right track."
