By position as follows in no particular order:

LG, C, QB, OLB, DT

Bucs trench play need serious upgrading. Pass rush is still too dependent on Barrett/Vea, and while Kancey hasn't played much yet - who I think will be a great player in this league.; the bigger issue is Joe Tryon isn't good. Our depth is atrocious, Hall/Greene/Hall/Gholston got thrown around like ragdolls. Yaya is a good depth player who could develop down the line.

Brighter note, Goedeke wasn't complete pile of crap yesterday which was a pleasant surprise.

We should be fine against middle/below average teams but against elite ones we will have a tough time. We've invested into Cody Mauch so hope and pray for his development over the next couple seasons. I do think Bucs have to address LG and C though ASAP next off-season.

Good news is we aren't the only team with bad iOL play - its an issue league wide. The reason why scoring is down...

Agreed on Tryon. He appears to be a JAG at best. I'm still not convinced that Hall isn't a JAG either.  Really disappointing that those guys were their first selections in 2021 & 2022.

Yeah, we aren't winning the SB this year...

Time to start scouting future prospects to get back on track.

Its unfortunate because if they pan out it changes the trajectory of this defense. Bucs have not drafted a good pass rusher in God knows how long. We've been able to bring in good defensive backs but man its been brutal trying to get the EDGE right.

You’re right. Tryon is a JAG.

Hall hasn’t even hit JAG level.

I don’t see how CB doesn’t start creeping up towards the top need spot.

Dean and Davis can’t seem to stay healthy and since they’ve both gotten the bag, they sure don’t seem interested in playing ball.

The Brady experiment got a SB so well worth it, but it also came at the cost of some very short term thinking for about two years.

will take a while to turn it around

and just what year in our franchise history were we actually in superbowl contention?

i'd argue the early 2000s we were in the talks and came thru with one

i'd argue the brady years, we were in the talks and came thru with one

other than that, we've been at best, playoff contenders/pretenders....

so that's a handful of years, certainly less than 10, in our franchise history that we've been considered legit SB contenders.

I'd say enjoy the season for what it is and right now at 2-1, we are playoff contenders.

You can probably stretch a year or two in either direction but drafting well led to a decade long awesome ride for Bucs fans that has been extended to some degree by multiple guys from that era entering the HOF and the ROH

drafting well is tough and requires some good fortune but it is the way to build

From about 98-2003 and the 3 year window Brady was here.

But, this team has tons of young talent to get back to SB contention. That's what's different between those eras then and now.

We aren't THAT far away from SB contending, it starts with getting better upfront. Where we did a good job on the OL side but DL we have fallen short.

Assuming the Bucs don't have a top 5 pick, the Bucs will still have QBs to choose from no matter where in the round they pick.  It's a great year to take a QB, and the Bucs have to jump on that opportunity.  Then in the 2nd it's time to focus on shoring up the LB corps after a probable departure of White and David.  In the 3rd we are looking for a center as Jensen probably won't make it back and Hainsey may not be the answer there.

Round 1:  Bucs take QB Quinn Ewers, Texas.

From NFLDraftBuzz:

SCOUTING REPORT: SUMMARY
In the scouting community, Ewers is viewed as a high-ceiling talent with raw arm strength and a natural feel for the game. Under the tutelage of QB guru Steve Sarkisian, there's a high level of interest from NFL scouts in his developmental arc. Sarkisian's system has been the crucible for first-round talents like Tua Tagovailoa and Mac Jones, and Ewers has the raw talent to be better than both.

Currently, Ewers' tape flashes first-round potential but lacks consistent polish. He's got a cannon for an arm, but his mechanics, especially footwork in the pocket, need refinement. He'll benefit immensely from the elite skill position talent returning to Texas, presenting him a golden opportunity to elevate his draft stock in high-pressure situations against top-tier defenses.

If he can marry his natural gifts with refined QB mechanics and show progression reading defenses post-snap, Ewers could skyrocket up draft boards. He's not a plug-and-play prospect right now, but with a breakout 2023 season, we could be talking about a blue-chip talent with top-10 allure in the 2024 NFL draft. The upcoming season will be his NFL audition tape, and scouts will be laser-focused.

Ewers has been inconsistent, so he may not go top 10, but the Bucs could sign Mayfield for another two years and give Ewers a chance to develop.

Round 2: Bucs take LB Barrett Carter, Clemson.  We'll see where he falls in the draft, but the Bucs are going to need a linebacker early in this draft.

Round 3:  Bucs take C Sedrick Van Pran, Georgia.

  • Van Pran has the scheme versatility, football IQ, and instincts to serve as a reliable starter in any team.
  • His stout build, combined with a strong, flexible core, serves him well, especially when dealing with larger defensive tackles.
  • Prides himself in the run game, displaying tremendous physicality and playing through the whistle.

Let’s see

eagles draft a QB of a Super Bowl winning team, perennial playoffs, long time good drafting team, have success

Ravens draft a QB of a Super Bowl winning team, perennial playoffs, long time good drafting team, have success

chiefs draft a QB of perennial playoff team, have success

every other year jets and bears pick a QB and they suck

so would it make more sense to load up on talent on offensive line and defensive line, then once stacked, pick the QB

i don’t think next year is the year. We have Wirfs, Vita Vea as the only studs. We have potential with Klancy (assuming his injury wasn’t a career ender, hard to tell at this point), Hall, Luke, Mauch, and Hainsey.

that potential can quickly turn to swing and miss. We need to get that stud park to a point where potentials on the defensive line are in the rotation and not taking majority of snaps.

Drafting well is the key. The one plus is that many quality teams seem to have later round guys they have developed on their lines, not just blue chip premium picks.

@badabingbucs

while I agree it’s important to build around a qb and not vise versa, this year is the deepest QB class in years.

if we pick top 10, qb should be a no brainer.

also depends how baker ends the year. A 1 year 6 mil deal we got him on sure looks like a steal right now.

OL is a big need. As is RB. As is most defensive positions.

what we cant do is overpay Mayfield is he has a good year, ala Geno Smith and Daniel Jones getting 40 million dollar deals.

to me, if he has a good year, and takes 20-25 million, we do that but these one year wonder deals turning into mahomes money is insane

and to be fair Daniel Jones threw like 15 TD passes last year so not sure what it's in the water in that organization.
