How about a kicker and one that could be young and long term. McLaughlin is only a short fix. But need to look at a kicker that can be there very long term and also avoid the Roberto Aguayo flop hopefully.
huh
Mayfield can get a two-year deal as a "bridge QB", or is he? So, the question Licht has to ask himself is whether any of the 2nd tier QBs are going to be better in three years than Mayfield. Mayfield is only 28. Whatever you're getting from Mayfield now you can probably get in five years. So if you draft a QB in the first round it's because that QB will develop into a better player than Mayfield, significantly better because you're using up a first-round pick. There are also the favorable cap implications of a QB on the rookie scale vs. a veteran, but that doesn't override the need for a competent QB who can make good decisions.
The second round is different. You can take a QB in the second round to be your backup. See Trask. You may not like Trask, but the fact that Licht used the pick at the end of the 2nd round for a QB was a smart move. Nobody knew that Brady would be playing three years without injury. We don't kno w that Mayfield will stay uninjured. The way he plays he probably won't. Going forward, the Bucs will need options at QB, and even though Trask is improved, I don't see him as the QB of the future for the Bucs.
So, my prediction is that the Bucs will use their 2nd round pick for a QB, or trade up or down to get to tail end of Round 1 to get that developmental QB locked in for five years. The critics on this board will once again say "Wasted pick!". But if you want to roll with Mayfield but not totally put all your eggs in his basket then to go to the end of Round 1 or Round 2 and get one of those 3rd Tier guys. First tier Williams, Maye, 2nd tier maybe Sanders, Ewers, Penix. Not sure exactly, but guys who go pick 15 or above. Third tier guys who go end of Round 1 and Round 2. There's a bunch of them. I foresee a run on QBs at the end of the first round this year for that very reason, to get the 5th year. Bo Nix, JJ McCarthy, Riley Leonard, Jayden Daniels, Spencer Rattler, Jordan Travis, KJ Jefferson, probably some other small school guy will make his way into that group of 3rd tier guys.
Figure out which guy is smart, fits the system and can be developed for a couple years behind Baker and see where we're at at that point. That's not the sexy answer, but it's probably what's going to happen like it or not IMO.
Well, we still need a QB, so that’s definitely #1. After that, OL, CB, pass rush IMO
So far, we’ve seen that Baker has plays there for the taking and he doesn’t take them for some reason, or he hesitates and is slow through his progressions. I don’t know if he doesn’t trust the receivers or himself or a bit of both.
This upcoming draft is seemingly loaded with impressive QB options, and where things stand now, the Bucs would be foolish NOT to jump on that when it appears that is the big need.
Let’s see
eagles draft a QB of a Super Bowl winning team, perennial playoffs, long time good drafting team, have success
Ravens draft a QB of a Super Bowl winning team, perennial playoffs, long time good drafting team, have success
chiefs draft a QB of perennial playoff team, have success
every other year jets and bears pick a QB and they suck
so would it make more sense to load up on talent on offensive line and defensive line, then once stacked, pick the QB
i don’t think next year is the year. We have Wirfs, Vita Vea as the only studs. We have potential with Klancy (assuming his injury wasn’t a career ender, hard to tell at this point), Hall, Luke, Mauch, and Hainsey.
that potential can quickly turn to swing and miss. We need to get that stud park to a point where potentials on the defensive line are in the rotation and not taking majority of snaps.
A strained calf a "career ender"??
Some of stuff I read on here is pure comedy.

Spot on.
Bucs should 100% take a quarter next year in what will be one of the best QB drafts ever.
They ca3n still draft other pieces and use FA..But QB is miat.
Baker is no long term answer.
It's gotta be QB. Unless we get a great season out of Baker, and even then...
Williams - we won't have a shot
Maye - really like him but again no shot
Give me Penix out of Washington. Best pure passer. Throws with amazing anticipation
And I'm a hard pass on Bo Nix... love my Ducks but he's a 2nd round pick at best for me.
G, C, RB, CB and depth all over the defense. QB is likely still a need too but for now if Baker continues to improve and play well they won't be taking one highly in this draft. Really can't figure out why Licht is so bad at drafting RBs.
Laiatu Latu DE UCLA
Chop Robinson DE Penn State
Two kids worth watching rest of the year would be great adds in the middle-late first. Nothing really special as far as guard prospects go from what I've seen, although there a couple good C prospects to be had early.
Chop Robinson DE Penn State
I'm interested to see how this dude performs against OSU & Mich.
We need to stay away from Ewers and Nix IMO. I just don't see them being anything at the next level.
I love how deep the qb draft is next year and there's not a ton of teams in need of a qb. Maybe 3 or 4 who clearly need one and then 3 or 4 that are like us or the Lions with a solid qb but should groom our next one.

Agree on Nix, but not sure about Ewers. I tend to lean toward him being a good prospect, but that opinion isn't set in stone yet.
Ewers didn't have to throw the ball that much last year, with Robinson being the focal point of the offense - and rightly so. I've been impressed with his body transformation, as that shows dedication on his part. I like his deep ball, mobility, arm strength, etc.. I haven't paid enough attention to his pocket presence, ability to read defenses, or his leadership qualities. Plus, he's really young - unlike Grandaddy Nix.
Hey now... maybe Nix wants 2 masters degrees! You ever think of that?
But yeah I think he sinks in the draft after the combine. He's def improved and I think a 3rd round pick would make sense.
Throws a pretty good deep ball but it's mainly to Franklin who will likely be a first round pick.
Ewers looks stiff and I don't love his pocket work or mechanics. I could be wrong but given how deep the draft is at qb he's a 2nd round pick for me.
Again Penix I think will be the best value after the consensus top 2

He throws the ball like Tua. Not the biggest arm, but strong enough, and very accurate.
Big fan of Penix Jr.
Would be bittersweet to draft the Tampa native in his hometown.
