baker leads the league in TDs
checked mvp odds I see him still in the +1500-2000 range. Seems like that would be a steal!
tonights game 3 mvp candidates will be great. Can’t wait!
anyone see bakers press conference about Mark Andrews? Pretty funny lol
Goff last 4 games
76/91(84%), 1086 yards, 11.9 ypa, 9 TDs, 1 INT, Lions 4-0
If you want to say it's the system and the players around him, fine. But you can say the samething about Baker.
tonights a big game. The Bucs win, and Baker can potentially be MVP. Because it then means we likely have the chance to win 12-13 games.
we lose, then it's likely we are 5-5 in a months time and maybe looking at 10-7 wild card birth which hard to give MVP too
The most likely record for the Falcons is 10-7 if they lose to Bucs, Broncos, Vikings and Commanders and beat Cowboys, Saints, Chargers, Raiders, Giants, Panthers. So the Bucs game against the Falcons is of course very important. If they lose, that gives the Falcons the tiebreaker in the event of the same record. If they win then the tiebreaker is division wins which may end up being the same if the Saints and Panthers continue their exceptionally bad seasons. The next tiebreaker is common opponents, which the Ravens are not one by the way.tonights a big game. The Bucs win, and Baker can potentially be MVP. So regardless of the outcome of the Ravens game, the Bucs have to beat the Falcons at home. If the Ravens game comes down a last-minute touchdown, don't be surprised if the Bucs go for the two-point conversion. They don't need to be playing overtime into the wee hours when they have to be ready for that Falcons game. At least they aren't going on the road next week.

Judging by the last game the Bucs should be very capable of beating the Falcons at home. We almost beat them in their place playing without a defense

And most QBs. It is a team sport.
With the exception of a tiny number of GOAT-like QBs, most NFL QBs are system QBs who are capable of taking their team all the way or deep in the playoffs with the right system, coaching, teammates etc.
And it is not necessarily true the other way around. Brady was the GOAT but take away a couple receivers, a run game and a critical TE . . and the offense struggles. Team sport.
JC, you agree that Mayfield is CURRENTLY exceeding your expectations?
Last year Mayfield was "only succeeding because of Canales" and not seeing wide open receivers" and calling running plays the wrong direction."
This year it is pretty obvious (so far) that he was succeeding despite Canales. Godwin is inside, Canales had him outside. Mayfiield choosing plays at line, Canales limiting audibles. Coen adapting run game, Canales same basic run game (one prior criticism of Leftwich).
Last year Mayfield was the guy who supposedly lost to Trask, should've been benched etc
It is a LONG season so there is plenty of time for his play to decline BUT AT THIS MOMENT, where are those critics?
Comparing him (unfavorably) to Goff, I guess?
weird how that happens

i was simply referring to his MVP candidacy suggesting most MVPs are on 13 win teams despite him having top numbers.
in terms of the division, next week is for all the marbles. We all expect the Bucs to win being favorites at home, and splitting the series. However, if they lay a dud and lose, their playoff chances take a significant hit; almost imagine the teams confidence taking a hit with Chiefs and 49ers the next 2 weeks. Could be looking at 4-6.
It's as close to a must win as it gets, no matter what happens tonight.
I'm forecasting a loss tonight so we are both at 4-3 heading into the game.
We win against them, then lose the next 2 weeks. They, bounce back against Dallas and beat the reeling Saints. (Falcons 6-4, Bucs 5-5)
The next 4 weeks - Bucs on a bye, beat the Giants, Panthers, and Raiders. Falcons - lose to Denver and Vikings but beat the Chargers (Bucs 8-5, Falcons 7-6)
The next 4 weeks - Bucs drop a game to Chargers, but beat Dallas, Carolina, and Saints. They finish 11-6 with an impressive 7-1 finish. The Falcons beat the Giants and Panthers but lose to Commanders to finish 10-7.
Now, switch the match-up next week to a Falcons win, then the Bucs are at 10-7....and with how well the NFC North is playing...not sure 10 wins gets you in as the wild card this year.

i'd imagine most critics have been humbled by Baker's play as of late and have warmed up to the idea that he may be the new record holder for many Bucs categories in a few years time.
To be fair, most were critical of him, the first half of last year, say when we were 4-7. Many of us that supported Baker thought he gave us the best chance to win and even myself was looking at a 4-8 as the time to give Trask some playing time. I saw the potential in Baker.
History can not be re-written however, as the Bucs finished 5-1 and are 4-2 this year. Heck, i'd argue they look even better this year.
Aside from Brady, Baker is the first QB in Bucs history to win a playoff game since Brad Johnson Superbowl win over 2 decades ago.
The critics can not say anything bad at this point but dont worry they will come out again over the next few weeks as we face some of the leagues best teams.
Mayfield biggest improvement has been being more consistent. He's been consistently inconsistent his entire career. But through six games, he's only had one clunker. If he can keep that ratio up, the team should fare pretty well.

I suggested he might struggle this season because he was being given so much control over the offense. Instead, he's thrived . . . so far. So much for that prediction!
Very much tongue in cheek on this next part. . .
. . .but most of those critics FROM LAST SEASON don't say anything now. Full STOP. Its not just that they say nothing bad, many say nothing at all
Last year those same posters - many, not all, of them being GATORS - were calling for Mayfield's head when things were bad, but then some (not all) were also DISCREDITING his play when things were good (ie its just Canales, 5 open receivers! etc).
Now? . . .. . I guess not discrediting him now it sort of like saying something good? LOL

Yes, he's playing well.
He was at 10k when I called it glad he’s cooking lol
