Kadeem Edwards to Start at Left Guard if Carl Nicks Isn’t Healthy by Nick John June  11    2014 Nicks_Zps69F807F3.JpgCarl Nicks’ infected toe should be on the Tampa PD’s most wanted list, because it has robbed us of one of our most coveted (and expensive) free agent signings in team history. While the team has kept confident that Nicks will return for the 2014 season, they do have a backup plan in place if he is unable to do so. That’s where Kadeem Edwards comes in. Edwards, a rookie fifth round draft pick out of Tennessee State, will be manning the helm on the left interior of the offensive line for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers if Carl Nicks’ toe does not cooperate. He’s a rawly talented physical specimen, whose growth as an NFL lineman will have to be sped up dramatically during this year’s training camp. At Tennessee State, Edwards was a three-year starter, who played all four of his college years at the left guard position. The Bucs are hoping that familiarity will lead to quicker success. At 6’4?, 313 pounds, and with a 35.5? arm length, Edwards possesses the size, reach, and power to become an effective starting left guard. However, his inexperience will likely lead to a few rookie mistakes along the way. That is why the Buccaneers are keeping their fingers (and toes) crossed that Carl Nicks will be back soon. He has been present at Buccaneer minicamp these past couple of days, but has not participated in practices. Instead, he has been watching from the sidelines, wearing shoes. The shoes are notable because people with Nicks’ type of injury usually keep shoes off of the foot in which they are ailing from. The fact that his foot isn’t bare is a sign of progress. Fans are hoping, since his shoes are on, that he’ll be able to step onto the field and start earning that big paycheck very soon.link
