Statistical likelihood I think Egbuka has a better career than these defensive prospects.
I hate drafting for need...
That doesn't mean I'm right it just means I like the strategy
Agree to disagree.
You know I’m a big proponent of BPA vs. Need.
Just don’t think he was BPA.
Hope I’m wrong and hope Licht didnt blow a 1st round pick hedging his bets on the Godwin extension, especially if he knew the recovery was behind schedule like some of us eluded to.
He wasn't consensus BPA totally agree. But he was likely the BPA on Licht's board and I think he's drafted very well at WR
That’s fair.
I'm very surprised that the Bucs didn't go defense, but Egbuka is a solid wide receiver, and will make our offense lethal with a healthy Mike, Godwin, and McMillan - it's a pick your poison type scenario.
All the guys we wanted fell... So we have some opportunities round 2-4
Egbuka? Dude rarely drops a ball, and when he drops the scouts think it is because he’s thinking through his route plan before securing the ball.hes not and he has by far the highest drop rate of the top WRs. 5% is brutal
Emeka’s hands are elite.
In fact, if you’re using drop-to-reception ratio than Tet (5.3%) is only slightly ahead of Egbuka (5.8%), while Luther Burden (7.3%) and Golden (10.4%), had far more drops on fewer receptions.
Havent read the comments yet..but fwiw I commented on this website earlier that I believed egbuke was the best wr in the draft. He looks and plays like a pro to me. I was also looking at other positions on defense like most of us, but in hindsight I believe the bucs have graded this player as one one of the top 5 players in this draft . This was a bpa pick with slight need. The bucs felt this player's bpa value was far above other players at other need positions, plain and simple.
@firebowles2023 no effing way..this guy looks so much more polished imo...terrible take..he looks like JSN and JSN is an absolute stud
Likely just 40 time: Golden 4:29, Egbuka 4:48…
A lot of scouts compared him to Godwin so I can see why the Bucs organization would like him. But passing on Golden will be very interesting to say the least
What makes Golden a better prospect?
but Egbuka had a more receptions and yards than Golden - on almost identical number of starts.
Again, two different players/roles - but significant for how we would use him.
Just go watch some YT highlights/film study - he wasn’t leaning on speed - he figured out his role and worked to perfect it. It shows in how smooth he plays. No wasted effort. He did it while competing with a pretty impressive receiver room and against top flight defensive competition.
I’ve talked myself into loving this pick.
just anotehr insane pick ... we need defense, our secondary is bottom 3 in the league and they draft the position we need the least!
he might be a great player, but you simply can't do that

You don't reach on JAGs because you need one

What exactly is a terrible take?
i dont understand the pick. I think he is a good player and will have a decent career. Nothing flashy about his game but he is super polished as a wr. However, Evans has 3 years left of ball and unless Godwin isnt going be ready opening day i just dont see this guy being useful. We barley used McMillian when we had all 3 wrs playing at once. J Mac was ballin - i was hoping they’d let him grow more. Now he wont be nothing more than a wr 4 and thats a waste of a third imo.
Bad bad draft pick utilization. The best course of action was to trade down, stock pile picks and address the side that cost us games.
Sure you can. Licht hasn’t gotten worse, he’s gotten better. He’s thinking of what happened in a worse case scenario last season, and he made sure it wouldn’t happen again…and he set up the future. Think @Firebowles2023 said it best: he may not have been a consensus WR pick at 19, but he was on Jason Licht’s board.just anotehr insane pick ... we need defense, our secondary is bottom 3 in the league and they draft the position we need the least!
he might be a great player, but you simply can't do that
I think that sums up what Licht’s been doing the last few years. Drafting to his assessment on BPA at critical positions.
He covered Edge with the Hassan Reddick pick - so he can use this drafts depth to bring in a developmental guy in the 2nd. He also obviously doesn’t think the defense is really that far away from being good - d-line is set - need help at ILB &!DB. Which is exactly what many of us draftnicks have concluded: good value for those positions from the 2nd thru the 4th - in fact you can find starting DBs in those rounds.
This signals that Licht is feeling pretty good about our run this season. I don’t think we’re aiming for winning more than we lose anymore, we’re about to take a step. Winning more than 10 games is the minimum, and he’s structuring the talent to make a deep run.
This was a great signal - I can’t wait till tomorrow night!
Now, I would like to put an order in for an edge, a ILB, a couple-o-three of them DB’s… and a side helping of that Tai Felton.
let's see the rest of the draft first ... but this was definitely a shocker for me
