Egbuka solidifies the fact that we have enough depth and talent at wr to weather any injury this year and play for the future.

This says a lot about Godwin in the negative.
It also says a lot about Bowles in the positive. Bowles is a defensive coach, so he could have insisted on a defensive player in that first round. It's not going to look good if his defense once again plays second fiddle to the offense. But he didn't do that. He says you have to score points to win. He's putting his HC above his DC and it's not going to be good for his rep, but he's OK with that apparently. So I give him credit for that.
And it says a lot about Grizzard. He better be a Wizzard. It's extra pressure on him to have that offense humming because he's getting priority in the draft room.

Maybe Bowles was telling us that his play calling was off last season and maybe that is what he meant. The Bucs are basically returning most of their projected starters on defense. It is rare for an established team to have a rookie beat out a veteran for a starting spot. Might still happen at NCB or S but beyond that I think your 2025 defensive Bucs starting roster is set for the most part.
Great. So, the Bucs' 18th ranked defense is returning intact.
Addition of Reddick and a new NCB or Safety is pretty much it. The 4-5 new starters on defense talk pushed by PR isn't come to fruition and there is no one player that can be a savior from this draft.
But adding a boundary CB that can step in when Dean is injured again this season would be money though. Round 2 or 3 today probably allows the Bucs to land a future starting boundary CB.
Why would they draft a replacement when the ink isn't even dry on a three-year deal for the original? This says a lot about Godwin in the negative.

You yourself said they got Godwin in the 3rd and they should have drafted a WR in the 3rd - I don't remember your exact words. If we had drafted Godwin in the 1st it would have been a good pick. But nevertheless using a 1st round pick in a WR is more than just BPA although thats how it will be presented. There's more to take away from this than just "we took the best player." Evans? Sure he may be older, but does he really have fewer miles left on his tires than Godwin?

Because we’re Top-10 in 11P usage. He’s an upgrade over JMac. Evans is 32 come Week One. Godwin will be 30 by season’s end.
I mean, the way you constantly shit on Godwin, I figured you’d be excited.

For the same reason they signed John Wolford last year and you took that as evidence Kyle Trask was going to be cut. You come to illogical conclusions given the facts. This was a BPA (on their board) pick.
Why would they have signed Godwin to a $66M contract six weeks ago if there was something "negative" about Chris Godwin?
Godwin, McMIllan and Egbuka form the future three headed monster. We will see what Evans wants to do moving forward beyond this season. Because McMillan and Egbuka are on rookie contracts the Bucs can afford the Godwin contract in future years with no strain. Might even be able to keep Evans around for another year if he chooses to not retire.

Outside of a large drop off from Evans this year, I'm sure they'll want to re-sign him. But this pick (hopefully) will make it where the team won't have to overpay for the aging WR in 2026. It's another advantage of the BPA draft philosophy.
If you think this was a bad pick I'll schedule your lobotomy ....
The best WR on the best team in CFB and this is from a PSU Fan .
The exact opposite of typical prima donna WR's
Evans isn't slowing down that much to me. He can't play forever, but he's got more left in the tank than David for example. Evans may play another three years. Look I would have a totally different POV if it was even a 2nd round pick. Then sure you are building up your WR room and it can't hurt to draft BPA at that point. But to use that first round pick is a different story IMO. I think when they tagged Godwin twice they made him a promise that he'd get paid later. So Licht lived up to a handshake promise. He has to keep the trust of his players. He had to hold his nose and give Godwin the deal even though he could have gently nudged Godwin toward the cash over in New England. He didn't do that. It's about more than just Godwin and the money and the salary cap. It's about Licht's integrity and reputation amongst his players and around the league. He bit the bullet to keep that intact and gave Godwin a deal he probably won't live up to.We will see what Evans wants to do moving forward beyond this season.

Still say this was a sneaky good pick by a GM who has a proven track record over the past several years.
