It will be the best 4 wide in the NFL
makes for a hell of a madden roster...not sure how many 4 wide we will run in real life
Our depth at wr last year took a hit when both Mike and Godwin were hurt. I think they were still solid but I think we want that position to be at its best because it's so important for our success. We have a high powered offense partly because we have such good talent there. If we want to make sure the offense doesn't skip a beat if someone goes down. Have someone else there just as capable.
I think if we didn't have those injuries offense is so much better down the line in the season with the continuity and consistency they have. If they can stay healthy even better because then they make sure their fresh and can create a ton of mismatches as a result of that. Wearing defenses down with that and bucky. Just go defense heavy the rest of the way.
i mean, take that example at any position that your top 2 go down and tell me how it wont hurt the team significantly. Top 2 QBs? Top 2 RBs? Maybe we survive with Tucker. Top two OTs?
Top 2 CBs?
see my point. If anything, the Bucs had some talent at least at WR with McMillian. But not many teams will survive their top 2 WRs going down and being successful - i.e. when the Eagles played us without AJ Brown and D Smith last season.
Couldn't it be (with credit to JBF) that:
1. Evans wants to retire next year
2. Godwins recovery is going slower than expected
3. they dont have faith in McMillan (eg talented, but not professional)
#3 was already suggested last season, its just that he then scored a few TDs
#4 is just BPA pick
i'd be shocked if Evans wanted to retire next year. For a guy that values legacy and records, why would he call it quits after potentially beating Rice's record and in particular if hes still playing at a high level like he is
Licht hinted towards item 2 but that's more just an added bonus.
as far as #3, if they dont have faith in McMillan, his trade value will never be higher given how he came on late last year because he is presumed to be #4 on depth chart and will not get that many looks. His numbers and targets will likely go down
as far as #4, i guess so in their minds.
im warming up to the pick
Better to draft an Evans/Godwin replacement a year or two early than after they are gone. I like JMac but I think he's a #2 or #3 option. Dont mind the pick at all.
I believe Licht likes to move to Bert fair, one year deals with vets. Not sure if that’s the play with Mike Evans, but it may be. They want, we want, and hopefully Mike wants, to make Mike Evans a Buc for life. Our depth at wr last year took a hit when both Mike and Godwin were hurt. I agree with Trevor Sikkema - after Mike came back from resting the hammy - he looked really good. Like a guy who amhas 2 - 3 years left in him.
makes for a hell of a madden roster...
Speaking of which, you should ask JC, as he'll be back to his highly acclaimed GM duties on August 14th (unless he preordered it).

“I like Emeka Egbuka going to the Bucs to keep that wide receiver room sharp for Baker [Mayfield], in case Mike Evans takes a step back because he’s so old, or Chris Godwin coming off the injury.
“It wasn’t a crying need as much as linebacker was and as much as corner maybe was. But Ebuka is just the epitome of solid — he’s more than solid — he’s great at essentially everything.
“So, I can’t see how this doesn’t work out.”
https://www.pewterreport.com/bucs-inside-2025-draft-sr-fab-5/i dont understand the pick. The best course of action was to trade down, stock pile picks and address the side that cost us games.
I really hate when fans say, "We should have traded down"
You can't just call the commish and say, "we want to trade down, we think that's the best course of action". You have to have teams willing to trade up and give you what you think is fair in return.
The teams that draft the best are always teams that don't reach for need. The draft BPA in the first round and often that works out in the long run. We have 2 highly paid, aging WRs both coming off injury plagued seasons. Hamstrings don's get better with age and Godwin's ankle/leg injury was severe.
The Bucs will add some defensive players that will help fill those needs in the next few rounds.
• Bucs first round pick Emeka Egbuka was in demand in the first round. Tampa Bay did field calls from both the Los Angeles Rams and the Houston Texans trying to trade up to No. 19 and select him. The Rams let go of 32-year old Cooper Kupp this offseason in a salary cap move and viewed Egbuka as a Kupp-like talent who would thrive in Sean McVay’s offense.

He permanently deleted him from the database. Doesn’t exist in that world. All records of him even existing would be expunged.

Exactly.
Especially this guy.
You wait until you’re in a position like LAR and HOU were, you’re simply telegraphing it to the entire league come draft time.
And, we see how that worked out for them regarding Egbuka.
This from SR's Fab5 was once (faux) controversial here:
"Most Bucs fans think of Godwin as the No. 2 wide receiver in Tampa Bay because he plays alongside future Hall of Famer Mike Evans. But in reality, Godwin is really more of a WR1B to Evans’ WR1A role – rather than being a WR2.
The reason? Because from 2019-2022 and again in 2024, the Bucs passing game ran through the slot receiver position that Godwin has manned. And there have been several years when Godwin was actually the more productive receiver in Tampa Bay."
In 2019, Godwin’s lone Pro Bowl season, he had more catches, more yards and even more touchdowns than Evans, with a career-best 86 receptions for 1,333 yards and nine TDs. Godwin also had 24 more catches (98 to 74) and 68 more yards (1,103 to 1,035) than Evans in 2021 despite missing the final three games of the season due to a brutal knee injury he suffered against the Saints in December.
Last year, Godwin was leading Tampa Bay – and close to leading the league – in receiving with 50 catches for 576 yards and five touchdowns through the first seven weeks of the season, while Evans had 26 receptions for 335 yards and six TDs during that same span."
importantly, SR goes on to say this about our 1st round pick:
Egbuka served in the same capacity at Ohio State last year, serving as WR1B to freshman phenom Jeremiah Smith, who led the Buckeyes with 1,315 yards on 76 catches and 15 touchdowns. Egbuka was the leading receiver with 81 receptions for 1,011 yards and 10 TD
Egbuka had a similar season in 2022 as the WR1B next to Marvin Harrison Jr., who led Ohio State with 77 receptions for 1,263 yards and 14 touchdowns. During his sophomore season, Egbuka was next with 74 catches for 1,151 yards and 10 score
looking like a great pick so far, but you can never tell
"ESPN college football analyst Kirk Herbstreit, a former Ohio State quarterback, likened Egbuka to former Buckeyes star Terry McLaurin, who is Washington’s top receiver. McLaurin is a legit, 1,000-yard receiver and a two-time Pro Bowler.
That comp also makes a lot of sense and reinforces the notion that Egbuka is not only a future starter – but a future star, too."
Mike Sando
“You know what you are getting: instincts, great hands, good production, loves ball, from a school that has churned out wide receivers recently,” another said.
“Egbuka is probably the most ready-to-play receiver in the class,” a third exec said. “One of the smartest receivers we have interviewed in terms of knowing scheme. Good route runner, good feel, has a chance to be an exceptional slot. Should have a very smooth transition.”
