Strange timing. I was saying this earlier this week.
i mean well yeah. obviously
we have the highest paid tackle and safety in the league (and rightfully so)
we have two high paid stud WRs
getting a Brian Burns was not feasible for that reason.
a guy like Hassan Reddick will be washed up this time next year
the hope is we can find a stud like we did with Shaq or draft one
Hopefully that article will light a fire in the Bucs edge rushers. But alas, I think JTS is a bust.
Like I said in the other thread Licht is taking a gamble in that if these young guys show up then he will look like a mastermind. But if they do not show up it may derail the season.
Banking on Bowles ability to generate pressure with blitzing. Picking poison while still in transition.

I am sure Bowles' plans to blitz Smith, Whitehead and Winfield JR more frequently too. But yeah T. Smith wasn't drafted to just play tighter coverage in nickle. He was drafted to impact near the LoS and to put pressure on QBs. Braswell and Smith are going to be used to aggressively control the LoS.
More blitzing will lead to more disappointment. Aside from playing an Eagles team that has basically quit and has a qb that can’t get the ball out of his hands quick enough with an all blitz coming.

One reason for my fairly modest outlook on the season.
They are not trying to push a deep playoff team over to the SB. They are trying to stay competitive while rebuilding. Young talent while clearing cap etc.
Except when they blitz this year they have Whitehead back to play center field with Winfield Jr. It is a whole different ball game and I would look at this year's defense very differently.
Can't compare last year's defense to this years. Braswell, Smth and Whitehead are three new faces along with Bryce Hall as the third boundary CB off the bench.

agreed that they directly addressed the back end issues they raised with last year's defense
Blitzes are most effective when you have a dominating D'line that puts pressure on the QB. If the Bucs had an Arron Donald or a Boza, they take up multiple O'linemen. That allows a blitzer to have an open path to the QB. But the Bucs don't have that dominant D'line pass rusher. As a result, the opposing teams offense has personnel to pick up blitzers. Blitzing leaves holes in the defensive backfield. If the offense can pick up blitzers, the QB can have a field day throwing to receivers.
On the Ira Kaufman podcast there was a comment that someone inside the organization was low on Braswell. I had a mid round grade on him and thought Jonah Ellis should have been the pick.

Agreed that Braswell was overdrafted. I liked Elliss for the pick too.
The FO needs to hit on an edge rusher at some point. Hopefully Braswell justifies their selection, but the Jacksonville game was a rough one for him.
