I would hate for Evans to make a bad decision and end his 1000 yard streak. He is ours and we make it a concerted effort to get him to that mark every year. He goes somewhere like Houston where they have Nico and Dell (2 young studs) and the offense doesn’t go thru him. He stays here, our new OC continues to make his streak priority just like Canales. And Baker will make sure of it. Evans could continue that streak the next 3 years here. Let’s keep this thing together.

Texans are the favorites to land Evans, followed by us, then the Chiefs
was actually surprised to see Vegas didn't have us favored.
would imagine Mike will still get his 1,000 no matter where he goes, barring injury. Would think he jumps to the #1 option over the young studs.
if the Bucs fail to sign Mike, it's going to be an ugly 2024. Hope they dont think they can still be a functional team without him.

Agreed. He's a true #1 that will be difficult to replace. I like Godwin a lot, but he's not a true #1.

They will not fail to sign him UNLESS he doesn’t want it.
they would lose season ticket holders
Any Mayfield success goes through Mike Evans, first, and relies on an improved o-line/run game.if the Bucs fail to sign Mike, it's going to be an ugly 2024. Hope they dont think they can still be a functional team without him.

This right here.
Houston has $60m plus to spend - almost twice as much as the Bucs have - they have some needs but Mike sure looks really attractive for what they need to get done.
AFC South looks about as tough as the NFC South - signing Mike gives them the best chance to level-up CJ Stroud in a weak division… at this point, only Indy has the ability to push them.
All that to say, it would be hard for Mike not to seriously consider an offer from Houston. Tagging Mike would also kill the Bucs cap.
This is going to be tough - and @badabing is absolutely right.

Might have been the Joes podcast, but one of them was going on and on about the fan love behind Evans. Well deserved, of course.
The Bucs know that. Evans knows that. And I would think the "one team only" story might help with the HOF, not to mention that the Bucs would be featuring him in the offense to extend his 1000 yard seasons
I know money is money, but it would not surprise me if both guys actually think of themselves as sort of a package deal, at least in terms of what might be best for them next season.
Mayfield repeatedly threw to Evans to ensure his 1000 yards and a ton of TDs and Evans is EXACTLY the kind of massive target Mayfield wants.
The Bucs just put out the ten best plays of last season. At least two of them are Mayfield to Evans on 20+ yd passes. One is a high and behind throw that Evans brings in with one hand. The other is an on-time and on the money laser that hits Evans in stride and he takes it down to his awesome dive for the pylon TD
They are a great match. For sure Mayfield must think so.

In all fairness, every QB who’s been under center for Tampa while Evans has been here has repeatedly thrown to Evans.
He’s an elite #1 receiver.
Outside of the GOAT and Baker, how many of those QB’s got us to the a second playoff game?Mayfield repeatedly threw to Evans to ensure his 1000 yards and a ton of TDs and Evans is EXACTLY the kind of massive target Mayfield wants.

Maybe I’m being overly-sensitive (Baker-Boi and all), but we’ve proven that we can’t just stick anyone behind center.
Definitely don’t think Jimmy G, Wilson, an injured/old Kirk Cousins, or even Tannehill would be as/more effective than Baker…and we’re certainly worse off if we decide to go with drafting a QB at #26.
I’m not projecting that Baker Mayfield is elite, only that he’s proven to be able to move this offense to the playoffs with the worst running game in the NFL.

Haha. I agree, but I was making a different point.
Your comment is about the past (every QB whose been") and mine is about the future.
Here, he is assured that he plays on a team (key point) thinking DIRECTLY about HIS legacy. Thats because it is also important to the Bucs to have him in the HOF.
Not necessarily the case with Houston, as an example, and a new (but awesome) young QB. Here, he KNOWS right now that the the OC and QB are going to him.
Not saying he doesn't keep the streak alive somewhere else based on his shear talent, just saying that here he knows he doesn't need JUST THAT because the current QB and the team shares his personal goal. The Bucs even wrote an article about it early last season.
""I'm going to be in more positions to get the ball, and that's what I want as a competitor, as a guy with my skillset," he said. "I want to be able to do everything. I don't want to be limited to just deep in-cuts, deep outs and go balls. I want to be able to do everything, because that's what I can do."
He only had 6 TDs the year before with Brady, with 3 of those TDs and 200ish of the yards (getting him over 1000?) coming in that LATE season Panthers game, I think?. They did NOT really adjust the offense before or during the season as teams dropped to take him away.
Not so this year. Not so next year and THAT IS A GIVEN . . .HERE.
I CERTAINLY COULD BE WRONG, but the symbiotic relationship between Mayfield and Evans is why early on I said not to worry, they will all be back. Little nervous about that now lol
Ha, didnt mean to say he was a very talented barber!
