notion that there's no chance he plays elsewhere when we just heard rumblings about it

obviously there is a chance BUT the "rumblings" come from the same guy (Tony Pauline) who suggested Baker would get $40 million. That rank speculation sent this board into a tailspin lmao. Turned out much ado about nothing.

I never took that too seriously.  "slightly more than 50%"  That's like saying there's a 50% chance of rain.  Thanks for nothing. If there was any source at all it was just an agent trying to stir things up.

But the fact that there is no information only serves to stir things up.  No info from Evans saying he's looking forward to working with Baker in the offseason blah blah.  No "we're working on it."   Or "I plan on playing for the Bucs if we can work things out...." Nothing.  Not a word.  He's sitting at home putting a little distance between him and 2025 so he can make a rational decision.  Take your time, Mike.  But as long as there's silence from you, the noise from the rumor mill will only get louder.

Why should he stay with the Bucs when there is zero chance of getting another ring with Bowles as HC and DC. 2026 will be a lost season regardless.

so then what if he does?

Simple...I will have been wrong. Right?

no not necessarily.

Elite players don't enjoy playing for non-competitive teams.

Remind me what teams he played for during the first half of his career?

I don't predict it and I don't wish it.

Bowles being retained help solidify Evans return.  Whether this is good for the franchise short/long term is a different discussion

I could be wrong, but I would think that its just a matter of Evans deciding what he wants.  If he wants to play for the Bucs, well Licht and his agent already understand the basic terms.

Tony Pauline always puts out articles like this. This board has real experience with the "$40 million Mayfield" article last offseason or maybe the season before.

Somehow it all worked out then. Probably will work out now too.  No guarantee, but . .

This is LVD on playing for someone lese.  Evans is different, but he probably has the same thoughts

“To be honest with you, I don’t think so,” David said when Adams asked him if he would play for someone other than the Bucs. “It [is] Bucs or no [one] else. I played my 14-year career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and they’ve been real. They’ve been loyal to me. The fans have been real loyal to me and my family growing to love the city.

“I know everybody in the building. The relationships with the guys that I built throughout my career, especially those young guys that I built a relationship with. I don’t think I [could see] me being somewhere else. I won’t feel right. I don’t know if I’ll be able to take it serious enough.

“It would just probably feel awkward, feel weird, because, I know the ins and outs of that building at One Buc. And me walking to another city, walking to another building, it would be a different aspect for me.”

Evans loves Mayfield.  He was quoted as saying that Mayfield throws the most catchable ball he’s ever been thrown.

Add this to what David said above and you have more than enough reasons to think Evans will stay with a team friendly deal.

For those saying there’s no way evans leaves Bucs, what’s your morale/view if he does indeed leave and Bucs don’t really try to keep him?

are you really thinking that’s not a possibility? Matt matera raised in on pewter report

EDIT: just brace yourself because you are potentially going to feel like you got hit by a Mack truck

Just an FYI...when you see rain at 50% it doesn't mean "chance of rain"...it is an estimation of coverage in a particular area plus forecast confidence. A 50% chance of rain (or Probability of Precipitation, PoP) means there's a 50% likelihood that any single point in the forecast area will receive measurable rain (at least 0.01 inches) during the specified time, not that it will rain for half the day or affect half the areaIt's a combined measure of the forecaster's confidence and the expected coverage.

Mike should take his time.  I'm not sure he's worth more than $15 mill though.

Former Buc Carlton Davis wants Mike Evans back in Tampa — but knows the NFL is a business

"I know a lot of fans would hate for him to leave, that's our guy in Tampa. I know he wants to stay but sometimes it's a business and it doesn't always work out." (via TKras/X)

Two sides to this.  I have seen where a team has turned the page on a legend and has been better for it. Seattle as an example when they moved on from DK, and started running their offense through the running game and more importantly JSN.

Evans is a Tampa institution but, maybe it’s best to move on and start to look at the young Bucs in the WR room and lead with them.

I would hate to see either Evans or David go but, at some point they will no longer play for the Bucs.

I guess I hope he stays and Robinson can manage all the greatness in the WR room.

Quite a change out of you from a few post up!

just blindly agree with management ehh?

Evans, washed up and all, is still head and shoulders better than any other WR on the roster
