"Emeka Egbuka is the best rookie wide receiver I have seen so far in my 30 years of Bucs coverage. The hype is justified. He looks like a veteran out there. Egbuka looks like Chris Godwin and will do a fine job of holding down the fort until Godwin returns to the lineup. He’s always where he needs to be in his routes and catches nearly everything thrown his way."

Yeah Godwin has me worried

Why?  If he was truly injured long term, we wouldn’t have signed him to an extension.  Not sure what the worry would be.

Haven't vetted it yet, but just read a post allegedly from today's practice that said Godwin was closer to being ready to go than Wirfs right now.  I'll have to go back and look, but I think it was posted by 'mrbucsnation'?  If true, then that takes a small load off my mind about Godwin.  I wasn't too worried after they extended him (I mean, if he wasn't anywhere close, why would Licht do that, right?), but after reading that i feel much better about Godwin's availability this season.

It was reported that even the Patriot's offer reportedly did not include a medical stipulation, indicating they were willing to bank on Godwin returning to form, just as it's reported that the Bucs offer did not include a medical clause. The Patriots later signed Stefon Diggs who does have a medical clause in his contract.

Does this speak to

A) the teams' confidence that the injury was not going to be permanently damaging to Godwin's abilities knowing his committment to the rehab process?

B) Or does it speak to what teams were willing to risk to get Godwin on the team because he is so valuable?

C) Or in the case of the Bucs was Licht following through on verbal committments made to Godwin when he was given the franchise tag twice?

D) All of the above?

In any case, I don't think anybody thought he'd be ready for Week 1.

This is a good point, highlighting the disconnect on Godwin. If the Patriot reporting is correct then it would be unlikely that he has a long-term poroblem.

I don't think of it as a long term problem. I simply think of it as it's taking longer than expected to get healthy. Thus the Egbuka pick.

And again, this injury never should have happened if not for our foolish coaching leaving the starters in, in a blow out, in a non-confrence game, when we played a critical game the following week vs a division rival.

This will forever be on Bowles incompetence.

When Godwin got injured in garbage time at the end of the Raven’s game last season, he was the best WR in the league.  Period.  Reason enough for any team to take the chance on him healing properly.  Not concerned about him coming back healthy.  He’ll be fine.

Or, somebody isn't sharing the real story regarding the rehab.

I was looking back and at least what i see says at the time that he suffered a dislocation.  Thats not really true. Maybe just sloppy reporting, but his recovery has been much longer than a dislocation (w/o fractures), for sure.

Better than Jefferson and Chase? Damn, your optimism truly knows no bounds.

The range for the injury if surgery is required is very very wide. Huge delta.

Several months or up to 2 years.

Statistically Godwin was the best WR in football.  Yes, better than both of those two mentioned.  Do I think he’s a better WR overall??  No, but he was statistically better at that point in the season than those two.  That is all I am saying.

No, he wasn’t.
