When Godwin got injured in garbage time at the end of the Raven’s game last season, he was the best WR in the league.  Period.  Reason enough for any team to take the chance on him healing properly.  Not concerned about him coming back healthy.  He’ll be fine.

Better than Jefferson and Chase? Damn, your optimism truly knows no bounds.

Those guys (Jefferson and Chase) are #1 wide receivers.  Everyone here knows Mike Evans is our true #1 receiver!!

Straight progression has limits, but Godwin was on track for something like 121 rec, 1400 yards and 10 TDs.  That is similar to Jefferson (103/1533/10) and Chase (127/1700/17)

Godwin has been the best at his role for a long time.  The only things that held him back are injuries and Dave Canales lol

The role of being a slot wr2, yes. He's very good. And still a top 20 wr overall.

Agreed. Arguably the best WR2 in the league, and one of the best overall slot receivers in the league.

And does all the things that don't show up on the stat sheet.

Wish he could stay healthy. Wish Bowles wasn't such a dumbass.

There are really only a handful of #2 guys that he could even be compared to. Here are those guys and Godwin's numbers in the same time period:

Jordan Addison - 2 years: 133 receptions, 1,786 yards, 13.4 YPC, & 19 TD

Chris Godwin - 2 years: 93 receptions, 1,367 yards, 14.7 YPC, & 8 TD

DeVonta Smith - 4 years: 308 receptions, 4,011 yards, 13.0 YPC, & 27 TD

Chris Godwin - 4 years: 244 receptions, 3,540 yards, 14.5 YPC, & 24 TD

Tee Higgins - 5 years: 330 receptions, 4,595 yards, 13.9 YPC, & 34 TD

Chris Godwin - 5 years: 342 receptions, 4,643 yards, 13.6 YPC, & 29 TD

Touch choice on Higgins v Godwin. Although they are very different players, their numbers are very similar. And then you have an aging Devante Adams and Deebo Samuel. Where does Godwin fall against them coming off of his injury?

I would argue Chris Godwin is top-5 at worst among current #2 NFL WR's, but I wouldn't put him at the top of the list.

Is Adams really a 2? Idk tough one.

Higgins and Godwin very similar and both have injury concerns.

Smith and Addison is a good comparison but they're bottom of the league in terms of blocking.

All around player I'm giving it to Godwin but that's because I view Adams as a 1 and Higgins is a diva.

It's either him or Puka @ WR2 for the Rams. For reference:

Puka Nacua- 2 years: 184 receptions, 2,476 yards, 13.5 YPC, & 9 TD

Chris Godwin - 2 years: 93 receptions, 1,367 yards, 14.7 YPC, & 8 TD

Devante Adams - 8 years: 669 receptions, 8,121 yards, 12.1 YPC, & 73 TD

Chris Godwin - 8 years: 579 receptions, 7,266 yards, 12.5 YPC, & 39 TD

I'm not sure how you could put Godwin in front of either right now.

Godwin isn't really a 2 as much as he fills a very important role in an offense.  Canakes put him outside as a #2 and his production went down. Put him inside and he becomes the final point for any defense trying to stop the Bucs

And then he blocks

Josh Q makes the same point in discussing McMillan, not 1, 2 and 3 more roles

Godwin is the "2" in TB because obviously Evans is the 1.  But really, Godwin is a 'power slot' receiver, very similar to what Cooper Kupp was in LA.  Coen even said as much before the start of last season.  As such, Godwin was supposed to see nearly as many targets as Evans, because the McVay offense is designed to get the ball to the power slot a ton, particularly when the 1 (Evans) gets doubled.

until he shows otherwise, Davante is a 1, Puka will play the power slot role now that Kupp is gone.  makes the most sense anyway, as Puka has experience playing from the slot in McVay's offense, while Adams has played the vast majority of his career out wide.  Though, I'm sure McVay will have Adams play some from the slot this season so he can get some easy releases without a DB right in his grill every once in awhile.

I guess I'm just calling them both wr1 and I agree they are both better than Godwin.

A true wr1 draws the db1 outside. There's some amazing slot players but the best also can kick it outside.

Puka and Godwin are very similar comparisons.

If I was a betting man (and I am) I'm gonna guess Puka lasts at best 4 more years... Maybe less

I mean, yeah, i can agree with that.  "1" is a relatively new term, that I think came from FF, and doesn't really tell us where the player is lining up.  I'm old, so i think of them as "x/y/z."  But so many people these days refer to the x as the 1, I just go with it.

In FF a wr1 just means top 10 in production.

In terms of real football, it's the best wr on the team that draw the best CB and the attention of the defense.

Defenses plan around Mike Evans. He gets the true CB1 EVERY TIME.

Godwin is and Puka are technically going up against a CB3 in most instances unless they have an elite CB that can slide inside.

Godwin and Puka aren't gonna draw Surtain or Ramsey etc.
