until he shows otherwise, Davante is a 1, Puka will play the power slot role now that Kupp is gone. makes the most sense anyway, as Puka has experience playing from the slot in McVay's offense, while Adams has played the vast majority of his career out wide.
It will be interesting to see, as last season, Davante played the most at slot he ever has for his career. A tick of 46%.
This was compared to Nacua, who played 29% of his snaps from the slot (Atwell getting a large chunk of those the past 3 seasons).
I think we'll see a fairly even distribution between the two.
Defenses plan around Mike Evans.
Most true WR1's get that treatment.
It’s obvious to most. Most, but not all.

Interesting. Higher for Adams than I thought... A tad lower than I thought for Puka

On a side note, the Rams may be in deep shit this season at QB.

I have to say, I wouldn't be too broken up about it, if that was the case.

No tears being shed here.

So adams is a #2? Adams is one year older than Evans and a 6 time pro bowler, 3 time all pro, two time NFL TD leader . . and yet . .

Weird. Biggly . . weird .. one might say

Mike Evans Is Becoming A Different Receiver
And this is a new version of Mike Evans. Only 15% of his targets are of 20+ air yards. That is the lowest rate of his career by almost 4%. And it’s not just that he is trading those targets for underneath opportunities. He is getting half of his targets between 11-20 yards, which is the third-highest rate of his career.
Evans is being moved around the field at a higher rate to find him more advantageous matchups and prevent the defense from simply being able to bracket him on one side of a 3×1 as in years past. From Week 12 to Week 16 Evans was in the slot 40.8% of the time. In only 10 other instances has he had a five-game run of higher slot usage.
On a side note, the Rams may be in deep shit this season at QB.
Trade em Trask! Haha

Probably because Godwin was out and he's a great blocker.
Interesting stat tho

Of course he did, because they wanted G. Wilson playing the X out wide where his decisions were going to necessarily be simpler.
As for Atwell, he's a gadget receiver, with a lot of speed, so McVay's been working him from the slot for several seasons now, trying to get that S/LB matchup whenever possible. He's a gimmick/decoy type of WR, and because of that, he has to work form the slot most of the time.

yes for sure.
Probably two things at play when he comes back from injury. First, he missed time to injury and the opportunities were ticking away to break 1000. Josh Q said Coen was moving Evans around to find "advantageous matchups and prevent the defense from simply being able to bracket him on one side of a 3×1 as in years past."
Second they need someone to doo Godwin's work over the middle. Godwin's work was a critical part of the offense and now Godwin was gone, so MUCH TO EVAN'S CREDIT he did it and did it really well.
Like I said, its a credit to him that he has adapted. Its what great receivers do as they get older.

I understand all that.
Thus, me saying it will be interesting to see how the splits play out.
If I were putting money on it, it'll probably be closer to and equal share than most people think.
Great to see

"This was a fun play. Egbuka cleared out the left side as he went deep to the left. In the void, Mike Evans exploits the green grass and catches a short pass to the left from Mayfield."
always interesting Fab 5 pointing out that both Arians' and Coen's offense ran/run through the SLOT receiver
"Part of that is new offensive coordinator Josh Grizzard continuing what Liam Coen started last year, which is lining up Evans more in the slot. Evans’ career rate in the slot is 26.9%, but from Week 12 on when he returned from a hamstring injury, Evans lined up in the slot 37.8%. Over the course of the entire 2024 season, Evans lined up in the slot 34.5%, which was the third-highest of his career behind only the 2020 and 2021 seasons.
The LA Rams-based offense that Coen imported last year features the slot receiver, but in a different way than Bruce Arians’ offense did. The passing game ran through the slot on more vertical routes down the seam under Arians, but the Sean McVay offense attacks the middle of the field differently on slants and crossers from the slot, designed to create yards after the catch.
Think former Rams Pro Bowler Cooper Kupp and current Rams star Puka Nacua.
Last year, Chris Godwin was featured in the slot and started off the season hot. Through the first seven weeks of the 2024 campaign, Godwin had 50 catches for 576 yards and five touchdowns. He was on pace to catch 121 passes for 1,398 yards and score 12 touchdowns"
To avoid having Evans in the same desperate last game situation as 2024 they are going to give him more slot time EARLY and have Egbuka in Evans' traditional role. Flipping them back and forth a bunch, a I bet
