Let’s talk about this and put some baseline expectations out there for intangibles and metrics. The below are mine:

INTANGIBLES

1) Possibly THE MOST IMPORTANT gameplay impact I expect of our QB play is that when a score needs to be answered or the tide needs to be turned…they deliver (nearly universally). Absolute bare minimum, I expect a long drive that wrests control of the momentum from the opposition and rests a defense that may be reeling. For example; If a team gets up by 10 points in the first half (say 10-0 or 13-3), YOU CANNOT GO 3 AND OUT ON THE SUBSEQUENT DRIVE. I expect 3 points and an extended drive out of the following possession if not 6. In the modern NFL, YOU HAVE TO ANSWER in those kinds of situations or things are likely to death spiral. The game is set up for offenses to be successful. Going 3 or 4/5 and out on the answering drive is a death-knell.

Coming out of the half with the ball, I expect points or a very successful drive (bare minimum) a healthy majority of the time.

If a drive is needed late to tie or go ahead or get your team within 1 score, I expect that drive to be successful the overwhelming majority of the time.

2) I expect that when the defense generates a turnover in the opposing team’s territory that you cash in with 6 a fair bit of the time.

3) I expect instances of back-breaking/game-wrecking TOs to be absolutely remote. By this I’m talking about TOs well in your own territory (40 and in) ESPECIALLY when you MUST answer an opposition score or it’s a 1 score affair late.

4) I expect that when the play is there to be made (the play-caller has called a winner, the offensive line has given you good pass protection, and a receiver is open or well open) that you make that play well more than 75 % of the time. Marginal QBs in the NFL can make plays under that sort of circumstance.

5) When a 1st down can trivially be picked up on the ground (eg its 3rd and 5, they’re in Man running with their back to you so you’ve got miles of green in front of you), I expect you to recognize this and make the trivial, no risk play; get 6+ and slide…sustain the drive.

6) If you have Audible-authority and we’re clearly in a bad play (given the front, etc, you’re seeing), get us out of it and at least into a competitive play.

7) Finally, I expect your play and your presence to moralize your teammates if not demoralize your opposition (in a perfect world it would be both…but the first is the floor).

STATISTICS (the below numbers are 2nd tier and above QB play)

PERCENTAGE OF 1ST DOWNS WHEN PASSING ON 3RD DOWN:

Bare minimum I expect this to be above 40 %. Ideally I would want this to be in the mid-40s (or above).

YARDS/ATTEMPT

7.5 or above.

QB RATING INSIDE OPPONENTS 10

100 is the floor here. Anything above that is gravy.

PERCENTAGE TOUCHDOWNS PER ATTEMPT INSIDE OPPONENTS 10

40 % is the absolute floor here. 50 % is what I would hope for.

PRECENTAGE OF PASSES INTERCEPTED

2 % or less.

QUARTERBACK RATING

95 +

TOTAL QBR

High 50s bare minimum.
