And that elevator is going down.  Is this for real that the Falcons are going to cut Cousins after the season?  He has a no trade clause, but nobody would trade for him even if the Falcons are eating the signing bonus.  If they do trade they'll have to eat most of the contract.

From ESPN:  The Falcons could cut Cousins. If they do so before the start of the 2025 league year (March 12), they would get hit with $65 million in dead money, coming from his fully guaranteed base salary of $27.5 million and $37.5 million in remaining proration, per Roster Management System. If they do it with a post-June 1 designation, the dead money would spread over the 2025 and 2026 season -- $40 million in 2025 and $25 million in 2026.

Atlanta general manager Terry Fontenot has done a nice job in getting the franchise out of salary-cap purgatory over the last three seasons. He'll have to get creative now with the team's big-money signing not working out as hoped.

But with the Cousins situation and a number of their key guys heading toward mid-30s they may be heading back into trouble.  Jake Matthews 33 next year.  Onyemata 34, Jarrett 32.  They have Bijan and London coming into their prime, but Penix is an unknown and Pitts is basically following the OJ Howard career path.  People may look at London and Robinson and say the future is bright, but what about the rest of the team?

I think the Falcons are in trouble, not as bad as the Saints, but it may be the Bucs dominating the division for another couple years while the Panthers nip at their heels.  I think Canales will keep them competitive but they just don't have the top level talent.

got to admit, good to see that contract set them back a bit

that being said, we aren't out of the clear yet.  Tonights game worries me a bit - prime time disappointment, Cowboys 3-1 in last 4, we haven't won 5 regular season games in a row since 2016.

one loss, followed by a Falcons spark and we are not yet in the clear for playoffs.

If you’re an opponent, and you make a mistake, ramp up spending on the wrong guy(s), it matters.

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

It’s always good to win financially because your opponent makes mistakes.

Never interfere when your opponent is destroying themselves.

Cap management is a part of this game, so mistakenly but deliberately gambling, and losing, will limit their ability to compete for talent - with us.

It’s just for a couple of years, but it helps us as we manage our cap well.

Keep on Falconing.
