Coaching staff: Some good and some bad overall the young players are showing improvement. That is all that can be asked for.
Offense: Bucs have some obvious talent flaws on the OL but they are playing at a high level now. RoJo looks more than just serviceable and the Bucs are stacked with talent at WR and TE. Winston is slowly buying into the idea of scanning the field and throwing with anticipation.
Speaking of WR and TE there has been a lot of discussion about the lack of involvement of the TE's in the offense:
# of catches
Godwn - 26
Evans - 18
Ogunbowale -11
Howard - 10
Brate - 9
Those are the top five pass catchers for the Bucs so far. Godwin and Evans are having dominant performances as the top two. Ogunbowale as the specialist and then Howard and Brate.
Obviously the Bucs are not going to be passing as much given that Barber has 53 carries while Jones has 50 carries. Combined Barber and RoJo have 513 all purpose yards so far.
Defense:
The front seven is playing at a high level right now. Could still improve but I think they are really buying into this aggressive style of play. Shaq has been the team MVP so far. Four INTs so far as a team is a promising start when compared to last season as a whole.
The backend is very young and making a lot of mistakes. With that said Whitehead is clearly the best of the bunch. Davis leads the team in combined tackles but he is close to turning that corner as a starting player.
Gaining back R. Smith will help the defense and special teams immensely.
Special teams:
Gay has had up down play as all the rookies have thus far. But his leg finally proved to be a weapon to help the team go toe to toe with an opponent for a change.
Pinion has played some solid ball lately so no complaints from me.
TJ Logan has looked NFL average thus far but I guess that is good enough.
Bobo Wilson as a punt returner has been disappointing. But then again the Bucs defense has to make some more stops to give Bobo a chance.
