I guess I had faith that if Bowles thought Dennis was the piece they needed that he actually would be. It's not like Dennis is fresh off the draft boat. He played in 17 games for the Bucs over two years prior to this year including plenty of snaps on defense, enough to know what he brings to the table. How did they get it wrong with him? Did he get worse, or was he a mirage?5) SirVocea Dennis. The #1 reason the defense was roasted last year was ILB. We drafted nobody. Brought back aging David . . . IMO we need Dennis to be a great defense. The defense can't afford to have ILB be the weak link once again.
ILB is the weak leak once again
You're reasoning was the injury potential for Dennis and his problem is but injury, but poor play. Either way terrible coverage play from that position, so far. And the same goes for LVD.
Here's SR pointing out how bad the ILB play is this year

The same way they got Devin White and KJ Britt wrong
Licht has a ILB flaw!
(or maybe Bowles)
Licht has no flaws because we won a super bowl.
Do I have it right?
If your goal was a strawman then yes you have that exactly right. EBIGGSTD
The argument is getting old so I'm going to summarize how I feel about it and you tell me which points you disagree with...
Licht has steadily gotten better at drafting and has benefited from being given a long leash to get it all right despite some absolute bonehead picks
Licht has managed to draft cornerstone players and has masterfully rescued us from cap hell while staying competitive.
Licht wanted to keep Coen and would have had Jags not thrown the kitchen sink at him. Licht could have gone with Coen but decided to play it safe with Bowles and then choosing to extend him to keep continuity because he's somewhat pot committed.
Bowles is AT BEST a mediocre defensive play caller but also hasn't had the benefit of consistent talent infused into his defense.
Licht has drafted well at some positions and has drafted poorly at others. There are clear trends.
Drafting and evaluating college level talent is different than free agent pro talent.
Licht hasn't found any good LBs via the draft or FA.
Licht has drafted well at o-line, wr, secondary, and to a lesser extent RB.
He's very good at finding late talent or UDFA talent.
He has had some questionable draft strategies... Kicker in the 2nd then again in the 5th. Drafting a shitty punter. Logan Hall trade back. Kyle Trask. Ignoring LB. Taking White over Allen. Not taking enough ST players late.
Licht has had some great draft strategies... Small school o-line, BPA vs need (at times), trading up one spot for Wirfs, late picks hits, CBs in rounds 2-3. Getting the player you want despite the draft board.
So you tell me what you disagree with...
Bowles is the one who decided to roll with Dennis. If he didn't think Dennis was the man for the job Licht would have put more resources toward that position one way or another.
Licht has no flaws because we won a super bowl.

You’re a quick study. You’ve mastered Leghumper Logic in a very short time period.
Britt and Dennis weren't wrong. They aren't busts. Late round picks are usually special teamers. The problem is they were expected to rise above their draft status. Britt did pretty well for a 6th rounder but there's a reason he was a late draft pick. Too slow. Dennis was a 5th rounder and perhaps he's showing why he was drafted in that round as well. They got McCollum in the 5th and that's great, but it's not the norm. Somehow Bowles put no the rose colored glasses and thought he had more than he did with Dennis or so it seems at this point.I guess I had faith that if Bowles thought Dennis was the piece they needed that he actually would be. It's not like Dennis is fresh off the draft boat. The Bucs will spend a pick on a linebacker next time. They have to because David will retire. It doesn't have to be a 1st Rounder, but 3rd round at the latest IMO if you really want a linebacker who can be a legit starter. Later than that and you just have to hope you get lucky.
I agree.
But I think the reality is that Bowles doesn't put that much emphasis on the position for his defense. Russell and Britt were the scapegoats last year and this year it is LVD and Dennis...the truth is that Bowles prefers to defend the boundaries and deep middle and is willing to cede the center to have defenders rally and make tackles. Ideally Bowles needs an Urlacher/Quarles/Brooks type of LB that cand defend the pipe or the middle part of the field between both hashes in zone coverage. That is why I wouldn't be surprised if they look at safety prospects to covert into an ILB for the Bucs next season.
Bowles can easily ask Winfield Jr or Smith (who did a lot of this in college at Georgia) to come down and play robber to protect the shallow intermediate field. But Bowles wants to protect the deep middle of the field from posts and offer help over the top for his CBs.
My personal opinion is if you have your DBs playing off coverage they do not need both safeties over the top playing cover 2 shell. Plus, Winfield Jr is an elite athlete where he can cover the field over the top and allow Smith to disrupt those mid range passes in the middle.
It looks like Parrish is going to be playing on the boundary with Dean against the 49ers with Izien in the slot. Or, they let Parrish stick to nickel and keep Izien on the boundary with Dean.
Sure but David has manned one of the spots for the entire Licht era. That's about to end. There won't be a ton of cap space so the draft will be the way to go. Most of the Bucs position groups are pretty well set. The D-line and the linebackers will be where they spend those early picks in all likelihood if the draft gods see fit to put some decent players in the mix. O-line, RBs, WRs, QB, DBs all pretty well set.I agree.
But I think the reality is that Bowles doesn't put that much emphasis on the position for his defense.
So, in one of the best starts of the season, while rebuilding the defense that still lacks two ILb’s that can cover, we hate the head coach so much we want to replace him?
With who?
How quickly do we get back to the playoffs in this miracle scenario?
the truth is that Bowles prefers to defend the boundaries and deep middle and is willing to cede the center to have defenders rally and make tackles.
I think both things are true. This statement above is true and it is alos true that the ILB play is weak.
The only reason I would say both are true is because the poor pass pro of Dennis and the limitations of LVD show up clearly on film. Maybe that is Bowles/Licht sort of picking their poison, as you suggest. In other words, chooisng to run with those guys because he "prefers to defend the boundaries and deep middle and is willing to cede the center to have defenders rally and make tackles" and we needed help in the backfield more
Licht has no flaws because we won a super bowl.
