I know that it's only been two games plus pre season but some observations regarding becoming consistently competitive:
*In general, the defense looks good. All the hype about Bowles seems legit. I see gradual improvement to a real powerhouse. Warren Sapp always used to say, if we hold them to 17 points, we win. This young defense is at that number over two games. Please keep it up.
*The kicking game, punting, field goals, extra points, kickoffs looks much better. Confidence is setting in with the fan base after so many years of failures.
*A running game seems to be emerging. Not elite but consistent and it feels like we can have a decent mix of pass and run.
*The receivers/TE's are who they are, a solid group that seems a bit out of sync but will get there, as things settle down.
*Special teams look ok, not spectacular but passable. If not for stupid penalties, the numbers could be better. The coaches will fix this
*The INTERIOR of the Oline looks decent and looks like they are holding their own in the run game and pass protection.
*Now, the obvious weakness....the RT/LT. Everything falls apart with these two guys. Period. Winston gets forced to do crazy things and make horrible mistakes because of these two. To me, it is no coincidence that BA went out a got two FA's, a LT & RT. BA must see, that this is the major issue and I wouldn't be surprised to see some substituting in the near term.
So in summary, the Bucs are getting there. Another thing to consider, is the Division QB's. Newton, Matty Ice and Brees aren't spring chickens and no one has looked great so far. If the Bucs can stabilize, as it appears they are, they could move up the ladder soon. No predictions on my part but I like what I see. I need my sunglasses.
