Hell no. Flacco is like a very **CENSORED**ty version of Tom Brady.

You do realize a very **CENSORED**ty version of Tom Brady would be the best QB in Bucs history right?

No. Because Doug Williams > Joe Flacco and Brad Johnson > Joe Flacco. So, no.

I wouldn't.  I'm more curious to see what this team looks like under Lovie in 2014.  I'm also wondering which new players are coming in via FA/draft and who's leaving.

The current Ravens are a prime example of what happens when you value 1 position too much (yes, even QB) to the detriment of the rest of the team.  Flacco is a decent QB, but not an amazing one.  He is good enough to win with a team around him.  He is not good enough to carry the team on his own.

I would give up our 2nd round pick in a second without thinking twice about it.  I would probably swap 1sts with the Ravens and give up our 2nd as well (though I might not pull that trigger at 2:45 am.  Might sleep on it).  He would be a massive upgrade at the position and a tremendous cap value for us.  I'm pretty sure the trading team eats the entire signing bonus and none of that is transferred to the new team.  Obviously the Raven's can't move him.  It would be an additional 23 million hit against the 14 cap to cut/trade.  For us though Flacco would count  6, 4, 18, 20.6, 20 the next 5 seasons (Yeah, his cap # for 2017 is 31 mil WOW).  For us it would be like playing with a rookie qb for the next couple seasons (as far as the cap), with the benefits of a proven veteran on the field.  I don't think he's elite, but certainly very good (and capable of elite stretches).  Were he out on the open market somehow magically, I would not pay him what the Ravens did.  Even with a significantly increasing cap, his #'s against it in 16/17/18 are astronomical.  Only what I would pay a qb who could legitimately make an argument for being the best in the game.  Which Flacco clearly can not.  Would I give him 15 increasing to 20 or so over 5 years?  Yes.  What I'm trying to figure out in my head is if I'd rather have Joe Flacco or Matt Ryan.  Trying to gauge how much I like him.  I think I'd take Joe.  Amongst the under 30 QBs, is he top 5?  Pretty close if not imo.

While this may well become the case down the line because of his contract, it has not been yet (he was 6.8 against the 13 cap) and isn't currently.  He's got a 14.8 mil cap # this season (Ngata has a higher 14 cap #), and 14.5 next.  It's not till 2016 that his cap number really could dent the Ravens.  Of course by current projections the cap will be 20 mil higher by then.  The Ravens have 28 mil to play with right now.  They just have some good people under expiring contracts, which is usually the case since they tend to draft well.

Yep, that $6.8 million cap hit of his last eyar was the reason they missed the playoffs for the first time in his 6 years there.I mean paying that type of money to the Super Bowl winning QB from the previous season is idiotic, that type of huge payday should be reserved for the studs we've had recently like Freeman who broke worthless Bucs records or Glennon who had pretty stats but was totally ineffective on the field.

Flacco can throw a short route and a deep bomb, and not much in between... No thanks!

You can't just look at last year's cap number.  You have to look at several years down the road and his cap number gets stupidly high.  You can manipulate a contract to put the bigger hits on later years of the contract, but if you do this with several players it will catch up to you.  So yes, despite his cap hit last year being low Flacco's ginormous contract is a big part of why the Ravens lost so many players and didn't make the playoffs. He is a guy that got hot at the right time and made huge bank off of a few games.  His overall body of work does not make him worth that contract and its going to hurt the Ravens going into the future.

How exactly are the CURRENT Ravens and Flacco a prime example of what happens if it hasn't happened yet?The current Ravens aren't really paying that much, the future ones are the one's paying those huge numbers.Nice try at backtracking.

I'm not backtracking.  Their current cap (at the point of Flacco's contract signing) forced them to backload the crap out of his contract and put a big part his upfront money as a bonus that was also backloaded.  That hindered them signing other long term deals.  You really think they wanted to let go of so many good players last year?  They had no choice.

You mean that same Ravens squad that is sitting there with $28 million in cap space right now.Sure seems to be hindering them this year and when you are paying your QB under $7 million as they were last year it isn't his fault other guys we're let go.Fact is the Ravens were in a bad cap situation last year no matter what Flaccos deal did.Suggs alone took up almost twice as much cap space as Flacco, Marshal Yanda was on the books for more.Plus it's really stopping them getting those long term deals done ain't it?Pitta 5 years $32 millionSuggs 4 years $30 millionDumervil 5 years $26 millionElam 4 years $6.76 millionAll signed since Flacco and they still have that $28 million left. When Joes deal really kicks in the cap will very likely be far north of $150 million due to new Tv deals, extra playoff games, etc and guys like Ngata with a $16 million cap hit will be gone.

Flacco is still light years better than Glennon at this point and probably at any point.  guy has won a Super Bowl, taken his team to 3 AFCC games, won a bunch of playoff games.  Meanwhile we haven't won a playoff game in 12 years, haven't even been to the playoffs in 6 years ,  and are looking at going into the season with a QB who is ranked toward the bottom of the starters in the league and quite frankly have no chance of contending once again.  You guys deserve your mediocracy for accepting it.

I'm still on the fence with Glennon, but I can see him being better than Flacco down the road.  Of course, I can also see him worse, so...

Flacco is very unusual in his wealth of playoff experience. Who gets that many playoff games in their first five seasons? Conversely his regular season stats are nothing special. I'd take a chance on him because he already has so many quality playoff games under his belt and won't be overwhelmed. But agree on Glennon. Too many variables to categorize him yet.

Why?

That dude had a good run in the playoffs but he's not worth the dough they signed him to. He's mediocre most of the time. I would rather role with Glennon and see what we have there than making any kind of moves for Flacco.

I stand corrected- I didn't realize the Ravens were in such a good cap situation this year, but that makes sense with all the people they lost last year.  It is worth noting that Flacco's hit is almost 15M this year with the prorate of his signing bonus and will be 29M next year.  I still think it was a bad move that will bite them in the butt.  Only time will tell.
