I mean make no mistake about it. Jason Licht and Bucs 100% prefer baker over cousins
you might say he's "the #1 free agent QB" . . .. to us. LOL
This is what you said after I called Cousins the #1 QB on the market.bringing up old shit from 4 years ago about some narrative that nobody even talks about today.
I am not sure why you think that. This is a Viking fan website at the beginning of last year
https://thevikingage.com/2023/01/26/can-minnesota-vikings-win-super-bowl-kirk-cousins/
I mean, its. 12 year long career we are talking about.
Anyway, you're entitled to your opinion, but man this kind of "motivation" stuff is funny, especially when theres tons of info to the contrary:
[Kepping mayfileld] has more to do with keeping our own players more so than Mayfield > Cousins
I never said it was Mayfield versus Cousin I said that its more than STATS, its circumstances. BY YOUR POST (because I cannot read your mind even if you can read the Bucs' minds lol) you seem to think that everything is "Cousins > Mayfield." I am actually talking about FA decisions NOT being Madden, not being that straight forward as the "betetr quarterback" has the biggest market, a point you DISAGREED with (in a post that contradicted itself) and now that you seem to begrudgingly agree with. lol.
By the way, in terms of your MIND READING on the Bucs motivation, this is the Bucs head coach JUST A COUPLE DAYS AGO on Mayfield:
“I don’t think enough people give him enough credit for being a true quarterback,” Bowles said. “He stood back in the pocket and made some throws. He throws a great deep ball. He has a lot of velocity on the ball. He’s very accurate when you give him time. He knows when to run to get the first downs. You’d like him to slide a little bit more, but he knows when to run to get the first downs and he did a heck of a job for us. And I was very proud of him.”
“It’s an extremely high priority, obviously,” Bowles said of keeping Mayfield. “We love Baker. Baker had a heck of a year. He fit right in with us all the way around. The chemistry was outstanding with him and all the receivers and the offense as a whole, so we hope to build on that. I understand the business side of it. Like I said, we like Bake and we hope things get worked out.”
and LICHT just a couple days ago
“So like we said, [media] expectations were low and I think the players all had a little bit of a chip on their shoulder. And then we had a quarterback who eternally carries a chip on his shoulder. It’s a boulder,” Licht said.
“So it was the perfect marriage and he made that chip even bigger on everyone’s shoulder, including mine. I was enjoying keeping some receipts myself. Now we have some great players, though. … So it was a good place for [Baker] to go, it wasn’t like the cupboard is bare.
Maybe there is more to it than just keeping our on players
"Going off of memory, Cousins stepped on to a loaded Vikes team and the team FLOPPED, right? They were stacked but had a bad season? If you go down to more recent performance (ie when there is no doubt it is HIS team) they have one season that mirrors the Bucs last season (divisional playoff loss) BUT in that game I think the Vikings offense disappears in the 4th quarter or maybe even the 2nd half. Contrast that with Mayfield in our divisional playoff loss."
You are insinuating Mayfield is better with this notion. You were trying to convince me here that Cousins couldn't win this playoff game because he did not play well enough. Which is not true and the stats back that up. NOW, your saying its about FA decisions not being Madden out of the thin air.
IF its more than just keeping our players and Baker is as great as you say he is, then we should expect a long-term contract from a relatively young Baker Mayfield HUH?

So, the dead give away ^^ that you are either NOT reading my posts or just want to argue is the first part in bold. "insinuated."
Just so its clear, I meant it when I posted that I thought the conversation was about #1 rated FA and what that meant. I posted the part about Cousins not winning the big game because its a criticism, just like people say things about Mayfield. They are different players. There are teams that will not want Mayfield and teams who will not want Cousins, both for a wide range of reasons.
KEY POINT -- THE CIRCUMSTANCES ARE DIFFERENT
if they were both available, even at the same $, the Bucs would probably still take MAYFIELD
They would still take Mayfield because he is Bowles' guy, he is the new OC's guy, he is a big team leader etc. That is what I mean by saying it is NOT "Madden." In the REAL world things other than field performance matter too. Players on the team are watching Licht and his handling of all of these FAs, as one example. I think Bowles and the jets chased Cousins way back in time ONLY to have Cousins sort of trash them a bit. It's not Madden and IT IS NOT WHAT YOU SAID, that the best player has the biggest market for his services. If it was the Bucs never get Brady because so many other teams go after him and someone drops MORE MONEY.
Lastly, feel free to create some strawman (the second part in bold) to knock down later. A 3 or 4 year contract is a pretty common thing for a QB so its not like if they dont sign Mayfield to seven or eight years it means he's not that good lol. HASN'T COUSINS STACKED UP A FEW EXTENSIONS?
When you make stuff up like "disappearing in the 4th or 2nd half" of a playoff game which is a lie - and then say Baker is the opposite of that, "when it matters" to prove that Cousins let his team down. That's what that insinuates buddy. No need to try to spin what you said. You are insinuating Mayfield is better with this notion. And the Buccaneers had the THIRD MOST CAP SPACE IN THE NFL IN 2020 when they went after Tom Brady. Do you know who the #1 team was with the most cap space was? Hint: they play in South Beach and if you conveniently forgot there was heavy chatter of them signing Brady AND pairing him with Sean Payton. However, the Dolphins didn't hire Payton so that never fell through.
You claim there's maybe more to just keeping our players, so you and other Baker bros should be expecting a long-term commitment(4+years) this off-season. I'm not creating any arguments. I'm going to let the contract and numbers speak for itself when the details come out.

Look, if you want to call me a liar now you should probably get your shit straight.
Going off of memory, Cousins stepped on to a loaded Vikes team and the team FLOPPED, right? They were stacked but had a bad season?
The 2017 Vikings won 13 games and had multiple pro Bowlers and all pros. The 2018 Vikings with a lot of that talent and Cousins went 8-7-1
If you go down to more recent performance (ie when there is no doubt it is HIS team) they have one season that mirrors the Bucs last season (divisional playoff loss) BUT in that game I think the Vikings offense disappears in the 4th quarter or maybe even the 2nd half.
In the 2019 divisional playoff the Vikings dont score a point in the 2nd half
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2019_Minnesota_Vikings_season
The Vikings also had a great regular season in 2022 ONLY to lose in the first round of the playoffs WITH COUSINS unable to overcome a very small 4th qtr deficit, as I recall. They kind of fell flat again.
In the 2022 regular season they had 13 wins, but in playoff the Vikings are down 3 entering the 4th quarter and they go FG (to TD by Giants), PUNT, PUNT, turnover on downs

hey dumbass . . . I posted a week ago or so the contract terms for the last 5 or so QB free agents
and you are CONVENIENTLY ignoring that when the Vikings signed cousins it was for a THREE YEAR deal. He then signed aTWO year extension and then a ONE year extension
so by your (lack of) logic . . . you're not making sense with your feeble strawman
Honest question, are you a Trask fan?

You are quite pathetic. Look at you, now grasping for straws now referencing examples that were under a completely different head coach and regime under Mike Zimmer.
YOU are the one that needs to get your shit straight because you sat up here and made up something in that tiny brain of yours of what happened to the RECENT Vikings in the playoffs. Sitting up here saying disappearing in the second half is HILARIOUS when in the second half Kirk Cousins brought them back to tie the game at 24-24.
would continue to push that dead cap narrative that I was hoping we'd start to come out of.
Yes meaning that ultimately the dead cap $ does have a negative impact eventually so minimize it unless you have some sort of extraordinary circumstances, like trying to win it all or even win it all back to back with Brady
First and foremost, I noticed you're calling people names. So, you should stop that and all because of your stance on the issue ;)
But, to the response you quoted, yeah.
We really didn't deal with dead cap on this level until the "Brady Era". And, I get it. There was a legitimate Super Bowl window for a few years. We capitalized on it and grabbed one (and were in a prime position to repeat if not for injuries, receivers going batshit crazy, and a defensive coordinator who went full-blown retarded in the divisional).
And, while we paid off a good chunk of the credit card last year, there's still plenty of fat. This deal would just add a ton of it. Evans deal probably will as well, but that's different.
We're not a "competitor".
Hey dumbass, I don't care about what you posted a week ago. I probably didn't even see it or read it, because you post nothing but bullshit anyway. You claim there's maybe more to just keeping our players, so you and other Baker bros should be expecting a long-term commitment(4+years) this off-season. I'm not "conveniently" ignoring what the Vikings did with Cousins contract because it has nothing to do with Baker Mayfield situation nor am I Vikings fan. Its different "circumstances" remember? Different QB's remember? The Vikings went through a HEAD COACHING CHANGE. A new coach did NOT want to be married to a QB he did not himself bring in. This is a completely different situation as Baker was brought in by THIS head coaching regime.
No, I'm not a "Trask fan". I've posted before that the Bucs should draft a QB regardless if Baker or Trask is on the team next year.
When you make stuff up like "disappearing in the 4th or 2nd half" of a playoff game which is a lie - and then say Baker is the opposite of that, "when it matters" to prove that Cousins let his team down. That's what that insinuates buddy. No need to try to spin what you said.

Have you ever noticed that most of the people that own you have trouble reading? It's quite the coincidence.
Dumb question on my part. Noticing something like that would require self-awareness.
Yet, the Bucs seem to be negotiating with Baker, and not really talking about your 'back-up' plan? He's 78-70-2 in his career
Which just so happens to be better than Mayfield at 40-46.
Weird, it's like they like one, more than the guy you like/keep re-introducing?
For a guy no one introduced as an option for the Bucs in this conversation, it's weird how a few of you continue arguing that a 36 y/o, 12 year vet, with one divisional round appearance in 5 playoff games (4 wild card exits), coming off an achilles tear, that will cost $45m...is a serious candidate for the Bucs to sign instead of Baker Mayfield?
If he were, some of the same posters that introduced Kirk Cousins as an option into this conversation, would be ripping the Bucs staff for taking a chance on a guy with a serious injury, and paying him $45m...
None of you actually believe Cousins was a viable option, or even is a viable first option this season. The reality is we're all awaiting Baker/Mike/AWJ/LVD/McLaughlin, and the extension of Wirffs. We all pretty much agree that Baker is a top 13 to 15 ranked QB. Most agree that our best chance to leverage wins next season is with interior line improvement, improved running game, and drafting a stud Edge/DB in the first.
The whole conversation regarding comparing the old injured guy no one seems to have introduced into the conversation in the first place...is just a silly distraction.
I don't have a problem with the spotrac.com deal guidelines @Donkey-Hunter posted, I think it allows us to sign all the key pieces and is pretty cap-friendly in the first two seasons.
Waiting for updates at the scene of the crime.
If he were, some of the same posters that introduced Kirk Cousins as an option into this conversation
Show us where those posters did that.
None of you actually believe Cousins was a viable option, or even is a viable first option this season.
You’re right.
That’s a phantom argument that you made up to back your claim that Baker was a better QB than Cousins.
