Goldson is good in coverage back there. He's just not Thomas and nobody is. Also, if (and I understand that it's a big if) the Bucs get one of those elite pass rushers, the Bucs will have a great front 7. They will be hunting QBs.
No, Goldson sucks in coverage as we saw over and over and over again this season. He's a nobody getting paid like he is somebody which is laughable. Yes, he can play cover 3 because he only has to cover a teeny tiny part of the field but asking him to do much with range isn't gonna work.
I disagree. He doesn't suck and sorry to tell you the Bucs will be playing a lot of man free this year so get ready.
Well if we do that get ready to have a lot of long passes completed because that ain't gonna work.
i just hope other cities have sportswriters as bad as ours. no one really knows what defense we are gonna run, but i would assume most would agree that lovie and leslie are pretty talented defensive coaches and put their players in positions to succeed. i think foster to SLB and clayborn to LE could easily happen.banks was a rookie CB. not sure that is an easy position to excel at. i was disappointed in goldson this year, and a lot of our posters called it. i do wonder now how much schianos schemes had to do with the success of goldson and banks. i do not think either will be probowlers next season, but used correctly i think they could both be more than adequate.
If Goldson likes to hit so much, could he play in the box as a lightweight Mike?
People forget that 1. Lovie went away from the Tampa 2 several years ago, and that 2. everyone runs the Tampa 2 at some point. I dont think we'll run that much Tampa 2, regardless of how we line up every snap. Otherwise Lovie would be just as stupid as Schiano and should be tossed in the pile of worthless coaches who can't coach to their roster and rather try to force a system that won't fit his personnel. Besides, it is a recipe for disaster without a middle linebacker who can cover downfield. Having a shut down corner should literally change how you design your system. If Lovie can't acknowledge that then he has no business here, but I'm not ready to make assumptions about his system so early. That said we DO need a new RDE, but that's mainly because ours is one dimensional.
I like Schiano's attacking D better than the cover 2.
Live by the Blitz, die by the Blitz....last year we died!

In this one gap scheme your Mike is taking on the lead blocker with the Will (David) running and chasing. Foster is perfect to take on the lead blockers. Goldson would get eaten up. I'd love to see Goldson walked down on a tight end or better yet, Goldson and Barron deep with Joyner walked on a TE. Joyner looks like a bigger Ronde to me. I hope the Bucs could get him in the second if he falls there.

No Foster isn't. If you look at replays of games, you can clearly see where Foster runs around that lead block. He runs around many blocks for that fact. I always thought that he was not an ideal MLB and he had never played it before coming here. It's time for a change.
Didn't read the article but Banks seems like the type of corner you look for in a zone scheme
Help me out with this gang- If we're planning on running a base cover 2-- with Revis in man to man most of the time-- wouldn't a smart team give receivers option routes to the flats on Revis' side? I like adjusting the defense to best suit a elite player's skills, but this sounds like a disaster if teams can expect the base look to be man-to-man from Revis and cover 2 zone for the rest.

No, he sucks. He sucks Balls actually. He's ranked as one of the worst safeties in the league out of almost 80 safeties. You're going to really have to skew some numbers to convince anyone of anything. Plus he missed a lot of tackles this year.

Goldson likes to hit small WRs with his head, not take on lineman.

Lots of teams do that if they have a top cover corner. Like all schemes, there are weaknesses, though.
Why is Revis such a great fit for this defense if he would be just **CENSORED**ing around as a cloud corner? It is unbelievable to me that even after Coach Smith stated in his PC that they aren't going to be some "Cover 2" team, some people still keep saying Tampa 2 this and Tampa 2 that. **CENSORED**ing ridiculous. What we're going to see folks is a scheme that takes advantage of its talented players (lotta man) and is a top 5 defense next year.
Which is why I didn't bother reading that garbage article.
Cummings opinions and interpretations. I sometimes wonder if the guy knows anything about football.
Wait...Foster isn't a liability in coverage. Fans here who have watched him says he "isn't that bad" in coverage even though my working eyes, knowledge of Lovies background, and statistics tell me otherwise. Yeah. That is sarcasm. Boid wins. Caradoc and Lord Beavis lose. So does Bucs 449.
Check your prescriptions old man because I have contributed ZERO posts to how Mason will fit in to a Lovie D.
