Goldson is good in coverage back there. He's just not Thomas and nobody is. Also, if (and I understand that it's a big if) the Bucs get one of those elite pass rushers, the Bucs will have a great front 7. They will be hunting QBs.

No, Goldson sucks in coverage as we saw over and over and over again this season. He's a nobody getting paid like he is somebody which is laughable. Yes, he can play cover 3 because he only has to cover a teeny tiny part of the field but asking him to do much with range isn't gonna work.

I disagree. He doesn't suck and sorry to tell you the Bucs will be playing a lot of man free this year so get ready.

No, he sucks. He sucks Balls actually. He's ranked as one of the worst safeties in the league out of almost 80 safeties. You're going to really have to skew some numbers to convince anyone of anything. Plus he missed a lot of tackles this year.

Goldson reminds me of John Lynch. Very similar skill set except Goldson is better in coverage. Let's wait until we see him in a functional defense before we declare him to be the definition of suck. Because what you are saying is that if John Lynch had played for us last year he would have sucked. Goldson will thrive in a defense that allows him to use his strengths rather than highlights his weaknesses.

His only strength other than committing fouls is......well I was gonna say tackling but he sucked at that last year too.

I read this great article on Seatte's defense and it's the scheme I'd like to see and I think Tampa has guys to fit it. 4-3 under front with Cover 3 on the back end but the corners play press at the line. Roll Barron down and have Goldson roaming the middle (or vice versa).

Goldson isn't close to the level of Earl Thomas.

No **CENSORED** and neither is Barron, but they are both more than serviceable to play either role. Goldson played single high a good amount in San Fran.

And I never thought he was better than average.

Why is Revis such a great fit for this defense if he would be just **CENSORED**ing around as a cloud corner? It is unbelievable to me that even after Coach Smith stated in his PC that they aren't going to be some "Cover 2" team, some people still keep saying Tampa 2 this and Tampa 2 that. **CENSORED**ing ridiculous. What we're going to see folks is a scheme that takes advantage of its talented players (lotta man) and is a top 5 defense next year.

Exactly my thoughts. Holy hell, how many times does he need to say we might run Tampa two but we don't line up in it every play. We have corners in Revis and supposedly Banks that are made for a man cover scheme. It would be ridiculous not to use what we have, at least until Smith can draft the kinds of guys he wants. As far as Foster goes, he's improved in pass defense but still a liability. Hell almost all MLBs are. Kuechly who is good in coverage is still a liability. I've been saying we need to use David/Barron in the box on passing downs and keep Goldson and a true cover Safety back deep.

That's where Banks might shine.

Well it's really hard to play Cover 3 when your free safety isn't very good in coverage and you don't have the best front 7 in football like Goldson had in San Fran.

Exactly.

i just hope other cities have sportswriters as bad as ours.  no one really knows what defense we are gonna run, but i would assume most would agree that lovie and leslie are pretty talented defensive coaches and put their players in positions to succeed.  i think foster to SLB and clayborn to LE could easily happen.banks was a rookie CB.  not sure that is an easy position to excel at.  i was disappointed in goldson this year, and a lot of our posters called it.  i do wonder now how much schianos schemes had to do with the success of goldson and banks.  i do not think either will be probowlers next season, but used correctly i think they could both be more than adequate.

Ira doesn't know what he's talking about.Banks will be fine at CB but might shine as a 3rd safety.

Banks is a big dude, and he is very important in todays game, with massive WR's getting more and more common place.  He actually did a pretty decent job covering Megatron. I think he will be fine, with better coaching and a better scheme, plus a year of experience under his belt.

Mason Foster kicks out to SLB because he most likely doesn't possess the traits Leslie Lovie want out of their MLB.  Hopefully, they can coach him into being serviceable, but I really think he would be a very good strong side linebacker, regardless.Revis stays until the cap becomes an issue, because that contract is gold, in the way it is structured. Revis is going to be such a force under these guys.  You can mark that in stone. (Barring injury or weird circumstance)Tilman and Revis make for a formidable pair.
