Allen is in decline and is the 3rd best rusher on his own team.  He'll be looking at his last chance for a big payday that will likely far eclipse his value.  This is the kind of player that good GMs let walk and bad GMs throw money at.

I'll bite52 tackles and 11.5 sacks and he is 3rd best?  who are the other 2?

11.5 sacks? Damn...imagine how many Gerald would be able to get with that kind of production from a fellow DE...

Robison and Griffen.  With Griffen and Allen both FA you can bet they will let Allen walk to re-sign Griffen.

Griffen had 5.5 sacks in 2013.

Sure, he was their rotational 3rd end and played fewer snaps.  But i'm guessing they will let Allen walk and Griffen will replace him as the starter

Not a big fan of signing him, he is older than dirt, and the Bucs are a relatively young team.  They are not one player away from the big dance. I am assuming he will be looking for megabucks in his last deal.

If we signed him for 1 year, vet minimun, great. But he will be looking for multi-years, big dollars.  Would you want to sign him for a 4-5 year deal?  I wouldn't.

three yr deal with an option on the third year . he knows he isnt gonna get a five year deal but he can play for three years. id pay him 4 or 5 million a year. he is the best edge rusher this team will have immediately. now i would love greg hardy...but its not happening realistically or michael johnson.

Ya, I was just about to mention Michael Johnson.  Better investment IMO

Hearing Licht speak today, I doubt it if we're in on any major free agents. Allen even at age 31 can still garner a pretty sizable contract and I believe it's one that will be out of our price range.

Jared Allen would help fix a big problem in the short term and free up our draft to be more flexible.

^^THIS

This big time. I would actually be ok with the Bucs drafting an offensive tackle at 7 if they got a guy like Allen. His sack totals from each year throughout his career starting from the beginning - 9,11,7.5,15.5,14.5,14.5,11,22,12,11.5Clearly this guy is still a baller and knows how to get it done.
