As someone who liked Carlton, and was angry that Auburn sniped him from my Buckeyes, going back to college days…Carlton Davis biggest problem for our Bucs, was that he hasn’t been as available as we’ve needed.
Agree with the assessment that our needs can be addressed with who we have on the team and what can be found in this years draft.
It really amazes me how we have shifted to becoming younger, but do think some key veteran experience should be added. Hopefully more cap space is opened up by these transactions to allow us to compete at specific positions.
Was reading an an article on this in The Athletic regarding the success of teams who don’t rely (heavily) on big name type free agents. If we were able to free up enough cap space to sign S/Jordan Whitehead, we could find a high value CB to upgrade the roster spot Carton Davis vacated, for overall less cap space.
It has really been a pretty interesting transition to observe - I think it speaks well of a front office that is Licht-years better than anything we’ve ever seen in here in Tampa Bay. I’m surprised Licht's team (Greenberg & SpyTech) hasn’t been poached, but suspect that may be a developing story-line if we continue to have success.
Another advantage to the Davis trade is dumping those void years!!
So far the Bucs are using cap space on players that the organization has familiarity with. I am curious to see the first free agent they sign outside of their orbit.
@alldaway I know big game hunting might not be on the menu but hopefully a Danielle Hunter or a Khalil Mack when he’s becomes available. Considering what’s available positionally in free agency and Licht’s track record in the draft I think the move is to hit this now and get our guard and tight end in the draft
I just want to say because it only briefly been touched on by the local media. Anthony Nelson’s contract. I think you have the ability to unload that if you bring on another pass rusher. Ideally he’s traded and you say bye-bye to those void years aka Shaq Mason / Carlton Davis
Oh my. I hate that I’m this guy now because I LOVE Godwin as a player. But if we’re talking books and future of the team it would be fantastic to unload that deal this off-season.
what we've done by now sits well with me!
lavonte must stay, of course, as mike did, absolutely no alternative and I'd keep will gholston as well.
really looking forward to draft, we got to go edge and secondary, no way around
Excited to have an extra third
licht has done very well in the third round
obviously a few bad misses like every gm
but the more draft capital the better!
especially day 1 or 2 picks
godwin or Vea restructure
or wirfs awj extension would clear up space for David and a potential iOL starter pre draft
Seems like we would be better off signing a FA Edge like Danielle Hunter. He's 29, so still has a good 3-5 years left in the tank. I don't see us getting a top Edge in the draft like Dallas Turner, Jared Verse, or Laiatu Latu - they will be gone before pick 26. It's far more likely that we could get a top CB like Terrion Arnold, Nate Wiggins, or Kool Aid McKinstry, and there are other strong CBs in rounds 2-3. There's also a strong chance that OL's Graham Barton or Jackson Powers-Johnson falls to us at 26. Maybe the plan is to get the Edge and SS (Whitehead perhaps??) in Free Agency, and then use those top 4 picks on a OG/OC, CB, ILB, and either RB/WR?

I'd be on board with this plan. Especially getting Whitehead. The idea of him playing with AWJ gets me all tingly...
After wanting $18-$20M per year last offseason, I wonder how Devin White is handling the reality that is currently slapping him the face?
Deshaun Watson and Jameis on the same team... 🤣 🤣 🤣
Shaq to Miami on a one-year deal ($9M)
Who will get a better deal, Lavonte David or Devin White? The media doesn't seem to realize that White sucks. Of course teams are better informed than the media, but I still have to wonder if some teams still think he is a good player. I think somebody is going to pay him maybe 8 mil/year ... and they'll be sorry they did. After wanting $18-$20M per year last offseason, I wonder how Devin White is handling the reality that is currently slapping him the face?
Signing our guys is great but I sure hope we make some type of splash in FA. This is a team that still struggles wit generating pressure, it would be nice we could grab a legit edge rusher & not have to rely on a rookie to help our rush. Also hoping we bring back Whitehead.
Gerald Everett signs with Bears
Gesicki to Bengals
running low on tight end options in free agency.. yikes
