Smart and successful teams in the past have protected their franchise QB with high profile offensive lineman. Brady has always been surrounded by the best of the best up until maybe a couple seasons ago. Peyton always had great protection as well.
Drafting Nelson improves the running game as he is powerful at the point of attack, blasting open holes for the RB. In pass pro he shows impressive athleticism and excellent footwork.
Scouts are saying that he is the best Guard they have ever scouted. Better than Logan Mankins, better than David Decastro, etc. They also have him as a top 5 player regardless of position.
Sure we still need pass rush and secondary help, but a smart team doesn't rely on the draft to solve those problems overnight. You have to find the right guys in free agency as far as edge rush, cornerback, safety etc.
Best player available right?
This guy beside Ali Marpet could go on to form the best offensive line in football. Imagine what Winston and these weapons can do if we had a physical, power running game and time to scan the field.
