I honestly think we should lock him up with a 10 year deal.
for $15M per year or $13.5M per year and $40M guaranteed, let him go...he isn't a 12 or 15 sacks guys like Sapp, there is a DT like McCoy nearly every draft...i don't care about the Franchise Tag, i don't care about the Revis deal... Dominik era is over! he's not worth $15M per year... let him test free agency if he think someone is ready to offer $15M per year for a DL with no +10 sacks season...Geno Atkins got $9.5M per year after an All-pro 12.5 sacks season and he play for the Bengals not the Patriots, Broncos or 49ers... and you want to give more than $10/11M to McCoy?do the Patriots, Broncos, 49ers, Seahawks, Saints... pay someone who isn't a QB more than $10/11M per year?a guy like Vince Wilfork got $8M per year in 2010(salary cap in 2011: $120M / cap value per year: 6.66%)!then you should give $10M per year to David when Patrick Willis makes $8M per year, Navorro Bowman $7M, Sean Lee $6M, Daryl Washington $6M?like i said before, you should never pay 10% or more per year of the salary cap for a Top player unless it's a QB!and if you want to build a long term contender, you can't pay 20, 30, 40 or 50% more than what the other team spend for the same player!you know what a perenial contender doesn't make? they don't give 10% or more per year of the salary cap for one player unless it's a Top QB!Dominik mistake with Revis contract doesn't kill our cap because the bucs don't have a franchise QB... but if you make a second mistake don't cry when the Bucs will have no cap room in 2015 or are in cap hell in 2016!$18M per year for 2 WR's, $30M for 3 DB's, $30M for the Oline, $5-6M for K/P, $15M for McCoy and your Jared Allen/Johnson/Orapko at $10M... then what... you cant keep everyone...that's why you don't overpay to win in this league, no matter if it's McCoy, Suh or JJW... if the guy isn't P.Manning, T.Brady, A.Rodgers, D.Brees, you shouldn't spend more than $10/11M per year if you want to win!IT'S A TEAM SPORT!
This is without a doubt one of the dumbest things ever uttered on the PR RedBoard. Congratulations, sir. That is quite a feat. Lol
don't be a child... try an answer with some real argument!do the Patriots, Broncos, Seahawks, 49ers, Saints, Panthers, Colts, Eagles, Packers, Bengals or Falcons have a player who isn't a QB making 13, 14, 15 or 16 million per year?Logan Mankins $8.5M per year deal or Vince Wilfork $8M per year deal... Tom Brady have a $12M per year contract!Champ Bailey $10.75M per year deal or Ryan Clady $10.5M per year dealPercy Harvin $11.3M per year dealPatrick Willis $7.65M per year dealJahri Evans $8.1M per year dealCharles Johnson $12.66M per year dealRobert Mathis $9M per year dealTrent Cole $9.9M per year dealClay Matthews $11.6M per year dealGeno Atkins $9.4M per year dealSam Baker or Rody White $8M per year deal
McCoy is the best player in the league at his position, he's homegrown talent, he's probably the best player on the team, etc. Also McCoy is one of the few true "stand up guys" in the league. It wouldn't surprise me if he only wanted to slightly exceed what Atkins got but we'll see the details when we resign him, because we will resign him, period. Bottom line, which was mentioned but you may have missed, is that while you're saying we shouldn't pay McCoy what he's worth because that is money we need to spend on a top level QB, the fact is that we don't have a top level QB to pay. Realistically we're at least 3 years away from having to pay our QB like that and that's ONLY if we draft a QB this year that becomes a franchise QB (I don't see that player in this draft) or Glennon becomes a franchise QB (like Glennon but let's be serious). Do you really want to let our best player walk because we might need to pay our franchise QB (which we don't have) 3 or 4 years from now?

^This is exactly right. You don't save for a rainy day, you structure your contracts with the ability to make moves when/if that time comes.

Don't be a child? That's cute. There is no argument here to be had...there is nothing to argue...Anyone with an ounce of sense would tell you that Gerald McCoy is the best, if not top 2-3 best, DT in the league. More than worth the money. If we don't give it to him, there will be 31 other teams lining up to give it to him.But it's clear, based off of your posts, that you don't have much sense at all.

i agree and i already say it, he is one of the top DT in the league... then which one is making more than $10M per year? Geno Atkins? Melton? Dockett? Mebane? Kevin Williams? Kyle Williams? Wilfork? no one who wasn't a Top 5 pick in a draft before the new salary cap!31 other teams? you mean the loosing team, Raiders, Redskins, Cowboys, Bills? or team with 34 defense? Bengals with Atkins & McCoy? or you think Belichik will throw $13M per year to McCoy when Tom Brady is making $12M or Wilfork only $8M?but you know what you're right for one thing... there is nothing to argue between you and me... you have too much love for McCoy and as much as i like McCoy, the biggest thing to me... is winning!
Gotta resign him, no doubt about it. He is one of the few stars on the roster. He has earned a big contract. It might be a stretch to say he is the best player in the league at his position. Or he is the best player on the roster right now. But if he isn't, he is damn close to it. Hopefully we get a competent GM and he will get things moving in the right direction. Unless we hire AJ Smith, then Gerald could be gone before we know it.
