I'm sympathetic toward that group, Vin (I think they are more right than wrong) - but I also don't think there's much doubt that Martin was a worry for opposing Coordinators.

yep ..  I know. Many in that same group would trade Martin. You?

Depends what I got in return - Denver swapped Portis for Champ Bailey and a 2nd rounder. I would have bitten the Skins hand off for that deal. Purely as a fan, I enjoy Doug Martin a lot.

I think the biggest difference in the offense between this year and last year is that Glennon doesn't take as many chances on the 50-50 jump balls as Freeman did.  VJ is not a separation guy; he creates his own separation by having a big body and ridiculous catch radius.  Glennon, IMO, is too hesitant to throw it up and let him make a play when he's covered one-on-one.

I agree that that is the biggest issue - while there are things to like about Glennon, he's definitely been more risk averse than Freeman last year. For all his accuracy issues, Freeman threw a pretty good deep ball and did a decent job with the back-shoulder throws and Williams and V-Jax feasted on that.

One thing about Martin last year was he really built his season on a few monster games. He was pretty much a nonfactor rushing in eight games. He only averaged between 4.0-4.9 yards per carry in four games. He wasn't a regular workman. He didn't have a bunch of 21 carry 98 yard games. He either got stuffed or went crazy. It's hard to build a consistent offense when you're so reliant on exceptional games.

On the other hand, Glennon is significantly better at reading defenses and at the short/intermediate quick passing game than Freeman ever was, yet somehow we don't work with that, apparently preferring to bang our heads against the brick wall of reality than change our approach.

Exactly. We seemed to do more things to help Glennon early on, but now I feel like it's hit and hope.
