It will be interesting to see if he grows in his second season, and that appears to be what the plan is.But it wouldn't stop me from drafting a guy like AJ McCarron just for insurance. He could be sitting there at the Bucs second round pick.
My insurance plan better not be another rookie. I want one of the veterans on the market.
But what's a vet going to do other than win 6 games instead of 4. A unknown rookie has potential to be the man one day.
Glennon is the guy we are gonna try and get to be "the man", and he will need all the reps he can get. The youngster comes in and he will also need reps, cant try and develop 2 because you get none. The veteran punching bag and do more with less work to get him there.I get what you are saying and if a McCaron or Mettenberger is there in later rounds I am interested but early on on days 1 and 2 we need guys who can help.
And what good does having the vet come in do? If Glennon struggles enough to pull him the season is over anyway. All you do with a vet is waste time winning pointless games instead of taking a look at someone who might potentially be a replacement.
Well said.

It is about focusing resources on one player not two. Plus, I'm not looking at the veteran as a "savior" but more as a bar for Glennon to clear. If he can't easily snake the job from a Locker level veteran then that is the early warning sign he's not your man. If that happens we will be looking for the man in 2015 anyways.
Between all the injuries, garbage WRs, crap OL play and crap coaching I have to LOL at people who think they already know his ceiling is backup.
It's absolute lunacy really. Anyone see the Glennon stat he is tied for most multiple TD passing games as a rookie? He's got some work to do but looked good until the team gave up.
Start the rookie with Glennon as insurance
Fact is Glennon isn't cute enough for our fans. Therefore he is only good enough to be backup.

If the rook looked good in camp, why not.

Glennon had one of the best statistical rookie QB seasons ever and you expect another rookie to not only beat that but also be better than glennon a with a a full off season and preseason with, hopefully a healthy cast. That seems very unlikely.Would currently rank 6th in passer rating in the last 20 years http://www.sportingcharts.com/articles/nfl/top-20-rookie-passing-seasons-of-last-20-years.aspx

I don't expect a rookie to be better in his rookie season, but I would hope for a rookie with more upside that would be better in the long run

5 have been better in the last 20 years, 2 of those last year. Who exactly do you think will be better? Johnny turnover? A better line, better scheme and better coaching and Glennon could look much different.
Because you so clearly can measure Glennon's upside as backup even though he put up one of he best rookie seasons with the injuries, horrible coaching and WR corps and OL play hat even David Carr is mocking.

Or he could look exactly the same as he has this year and all through college. Good enough not to lose, but not good enough to win.
Glennon sucks. Schiano sucks. The end.

That is my take on the situation. Say Glennon stinks it up, throw the rook in. They need to determine who the QB is going to be in the long run. Not just for the 2014 season, but for the future. If its Glennon great, if it is the rook great. If it is neither, its back to the drawing board.

The idiot JDud makes an appearance!
Glennon deserves a chance to start with real competition. Not a Dan Orlovski either, I said REAL competition
