Pay him and pay him well. He should not get shafted because Lovie Bowles had him in late in a blowout.
I'm not sure what the right deal is but it should probably be 2 years guaranteed with a third year team option.
The kid deserves it and shouldn't get punished because our coach is a joke.
2 years 50 million sound right?
The Bucs should do whatever is necessary to keep Godwin here in Tampa Bay. Was having a career year until Bowles and Smith ruined his season.
Wouldn't surprise me if they did
he was playing as best in the league and was easily looking at 4 year, $100M dollar deal
From a ruthless business perspective, they likely franchise tag him to see how he recovers. If he's not elite but still good, maybe they get him cheaper in March 2026.
a contract extension gives us more wiggle room but Godwin may be risky at this point of his career and with a label approaching of "injury prone".
saw an article that he may come back for playoffs (haha pipe dream we even make it) but that would help his case
Godwin is a free agent. As long as he's back to 100% he should command a decent amount from the free agent market. Apparently, Godwin thinks he'll be able to come back for the playoffs! Chris, about that......
The Bucs didn't restructure his contract. They let him get to free agency (unless they tag him) which was to his detriment because he got injured. So if he's healthy he should get the best deal that he can, which probably isn't with the Bucs. I don't think the Bucs were planning on resigning him at the market rate, and that hasn't changed because of the injury. Having two aging high priced WRs isn't in the plans for a team that is clearly trying to have a balanced offense.
Bottom line - Godwin won't be back next year IMO.
Godwin is coming back. There were will be moves made to make room for it - releasing Jamel Dean next year will be one of them. Dude is top 5 highest paid Bucs(value wise) not APY and is far from being a top 5 or even 10 player on this roster. You thought Carlton Davis was a no brainer to save space, this decision will be x1000 easier.
David will probably be done with football. And JTS will be a FA and I don't expect him back either.
Cap room spike projected to be at $260. I'd guess a multi-year deal in the 20M's range will happen or at worst a franchise tag.
Not saying they do it but the PR value of extending him would be big
If they could do it Lavonte David style and bring him back at a reduced rate then sure, but if Godwin comes back 100% from the injury he'll command a high salary from some WR starved team. Not saying they do it but the PR value of extending him would be big

I think Coen success on offense will keep Bowles around for a while . If you fire Bowles, you lose Coen unless you make him head coach . If Coen and stuff are gone because of a Bowles fire . I think Godwin leaves - the offense was built around Godwin and he was putting up numbers in the type of offense .
It would be a nice gesture, curious to see how it goes! Chris has been an excellent elite/veteran who has always put the team, first. Not saying they do it but the PR value of extending him would be big

Thank God you posted this, as it essentially guarantees Godwin is on the roster next year!
Appreciate ya'!
Brutal, but funny…Bottom line - Godwin won't be back next year IMO.

Interesting take. I think I agree. Believe the defense is set for Bowles hybridized scheme - so that makes me think total rebuild (no one else runs Bowles style - with as few assets - as Bowles has been asked to get by with…so you could obviously find a DC, just likely not an established one. I’m good with Bowles for now. I do think he’s made mistakes, but contrary to some reports, we’ve missed stretches of games where defensive stars have NOT been playing together - and just because they come back it doesn’t mean they’re back at 100%. Sure the rest of the league is dealing with injuries to one extent or another, but I believe anyone who thinks our defense wasn’t decimated this season hasn’t been paying attention.Pay him and pay him well. He should not get shafted because Lovie Bowles had him in late in a blowout.

I don’t think it’s a scheme problem - I think it’s a lack of quality, problem. No edge, no CB, no ILB. We all called this. They knew it. They didn’t address it either they couldn’t, or just didn’t, because they overvalued some pieces already on the roster (I think that’s called hope).
But, I’m just a fan who posts on mwssage boards, what do I know!
Something that has been stated before, but needs to be mentioned again....Godwin has a 29 Million dead cap hit next year regardless of if he's here or elsewhere...Sure we can re-sign him at the cost of kicking the can down the road by a couple of years. He also has a bad wheel that he may, or may not be able to come back from. I know he said yesterday he could likely be back for a playoff push, but he also stated that was best case scenario where everything fell into place perfectly...Don't get me wrong I love Godwin, he is a top 3 WR for our team, but do we give a deal similar the M1k3 for a player that might never be the same again?
Fascinating subplot to this season's story
I think Coen success on offense will keep Bowles around for a while . If you fire Bowles, you lose Coen unless you make him head coach
Fascinating because Lovie was fired and Koetter became HC, but also Coen has way less HC experience/training than someone like Canales or Koetter. Canales was a HC in training who was sort of faking his way through the OC role and Koetter was a former college HC who had been an OC for several years.
I think the main point is correct in that CONTINUITY especially when one season was good the other bad BUT injury-plagued, is often the way. Maybe it depdends on how things look from here?
Also, agree with this

I think some of the overvauling, as you call it, was just that the circusmatcnes are such that they have a couple players they wanted to see what they had with them.
The Falcons games .. BOTH OF THEM . . are particularly bad games for the defense because they have no coverage at the LB position and, maybe more importantly, their supposed AREA OF STRENGTH (safety) did not deliver . . TWICE.
During the offseason/preseason, how many people posted here (me!) some version of the DBs being able to tighten up some of the problems we saw in 2023?
Not so much . . so far. Our one DB (McCollum) is as advertised. Dean is OUT (no surprise) and the rest are back ups (even our prized rookie out). That works sometimes BUT not when you have safeties running everywhere and ZERO underneath coverage.
I half expect Bowles to go straight up Monte vanilla Tampa 2!!!
