Way back when PFF was just coming on the scene and throngs of football fans were proclaiming themselves to be disciples of the knew "objective" (lol) advanced stats from PFF, PFF decided to show off its keen insight by naming Qunicey Black the next Derrick Brooks (ie "secret superstar"):
"When you think of linebackers that have played for the Buccaneers, the first name that should come to mind is Derrick Brooks. He was one of the best of all time, and left big shoes to fill when the team cut him years ago. Tampa Bay’s next star linebacker might be Quincy Black . . ."
Needless to say that did NOT materialize. Now, its Luke Goedeke:

Lets see how it turns out
Hope he continues to develop. He sort of picked up the nasty role from our former center.
Interesting, I like the PFF as a datapoint, but this kinda underscores the concept that you can’t always use a data point to play “money ball” with NFL players.Way back when PFF was just coming on the scene and throngs of football fans were proclaiming themselves to be disciples of the knew "objective" (lol) advanced stats from PFF, PFF decided to show off its keen insight by naming Qunicey Black the next Derrick Brooks (ie "secret superstar"):

Goedoke seems to have improved at a new position. That could be because we’re covering the basic needs at the position/the way Canales used him. Interesting, Coen may ultimately want more from the position, so maybe we find a middling college LOT, and see if they can convert him?
I have been thinking we only need interior o-line - and Hainesy is probably adequate starter - and that we probably that Goedeke was a good fit at ROT.
Your post has me interested in what we do at ROT as well… still a Day 2/3 conversation.

Goedeke was actually a Tackle, I think. The Bucs moved him to guard? May be wrong
He definitely improved, but he also had quite a few penalties, as I recall, and as you point out the offensive system impacts everyone so who knows what happens with a change in the offense
Goedoke seems to have improved at a new position.
it was a new position for him in the NFL. He was ROT in college. Considering this was his first year playing ROT in the NFL, I think he's going to be a solid performer and will only get better...
It takes more than one thing to make a curse IMO.
The fact that the real discussions are around the trenches indicates that the Bucs are actually positioned where you want them - not around NEEDING someone at a skill position.
After recently winning a Super Bowl, being a team - means that the NFL is working against you (cap limitations, roster maintenance, injuries), so maintaining middling status and winning, while replacing pieces, is the goal.
The fact that we can over perform, with middling talent is remarkable. As a long time Buc fan, it’s pretty rare that we ‘mortgaged the future’ for the GOAT (and also acquiring the cast of characters needed on offense needed to protect him, and the WR’s capable of allowing him to have success), means we have to repair the car WHILE it’s racing.
To me, the fact that we are able to do that is impressive. Whether folks like it or not, if you didn’t have Baker Mayfield, you would not be in the discussion to keep Mike Evans, or maybe even Winfield.
I’m not attacking our defense, but it can’t be denied that the 2023 defense was NOT in the same stratosphere as the 2021 defense. One side of the ball has to dominate, to allow the other side to be average. Our (Buc) history indicates that this works best if your defense is dominant and your offense has middle talent - only once have we seen a time when we had BOTH at the same time…and I think that’s really difficult to achieve.
So, we need the defense to get upgraded - that’s why I’m ALL for drafting a DB that can improve our pressure package AND our secondary - I’m looking for a Safety, but a stud corner would be just as good.
With Baker Mayfield - the formula works - without him we’re having discussions as to whether Michael Pennix would fold like a cheap suit in (see him vs Michigan in the NC).
Becoming dominant on defense, while getting middling talent to over-perform - is what I think the plan is moving forward. I don’t think either side of the ball will be dominant for at least another year. But we have shown we can over-perform…and if you can can get to the playoffs, why you may even surprise everyone…

Exactly. It wasn’t a “new” position for him.
While there’s obvious room for growth, I think he played fairly well, especially in pass pro.
Hainsey was the obvious weak link on the line, and simply isn’t a starter at this level.
Center and LG are big priorities this offseason.
Right up there with EDGE and Corner.

that would be great so share your hope.
I like his fire. I think every line needs someone (or two) like that.

Him and Wirfs seem to have built a good relationship together and plan on working out a lot together in the offseason.
Considering how elite Tristan was at RT, this could be a great thing for Luke.
Love to see it.

Didnt know that. man, that should be good

I don’t know. One reference from 14 years ago seems pretty solid to me.
Shameless.

That must be your "objective" opinion about the subjective .... fact . . that PFF stats are objective.
Funny thing is you just made that same MISTAKE again recently.
Majority here killed Luke’s play , fans will be fans

Not this season. Last year, yes. He sucked at Guard. But he was really, really good at RT. Props to him and the staff on his improvement.

And, rightfully so.
He was atrocious at guard.
Moves back to his natural position this season, and he played well.
