As Trevor has pointed out going 3-4 as a base makes so much sense it's ridiculous. It really fits our personnel, and it give us an opportunity to develop a good pass rushing defense relatively quickly. Obviously, we would need a stud NT to make this work, and that's where Vea fits in. Personally, I see him available from 10-15. So I would like to trade down in that vicinity. That's all great, but do we have a trading partner? With possibly 5 QBs going in the top 6, is #7 even a desirable pick? Is someone going to sell the farm for Barkley, Fitzpatrick, or Nelson? I think you only trade up in the first if you want a QB.
The first 3 picks will be QBs. I would be shocked if the Colts DON'T trade down.
Teams will be fighting over the opportunity to draft the following:
Darnold
Rosen
Allen
And they will pay the Colts a killer's ransom for #3.
I really believe that Mayfield, and perhaps Rudolph, can go #5 and 6. I think Rudolph is going to impress at the Combine. Lamar Jackson will as well.
I would love Vea but not at #7. If we trade back to #13 and land Vea and another 2nd and 3rd we could do some damage in the draft:
rd1 - DT - Vea - Wash
rd2 - G - Braden Smith - UA
rd2 - CB - Jaire Alexander - UL
rd3 - RB - Rashad Penny - SDST
rd3 - OLB - Joe Ostman - Central Mich
rd4 - OLB - Marquis Haynes - Ole Miss
rd5 - DT - R.J. McIntosh - UM
rd6 - CB - Jamar Summers - CT
rd6 - RB - Martez Carter - Grambling St
