Why draft a 2nd round QB? Find out what we really have with Glennon and if it doesn't work grab a 1st rounder in '15

The only problem there is, you are gambling the entire 2014 season on whether or not Glennon pans out. If you draft a QB now, he can sit and learn while they evaluate Glennon.  Then if Glennon bombs out, you put the new guy in. And get him some valuable playing time in the 2nd half of the season. And if Glennon does well, the new guy still gets valuable experience being the backup QB.

And if they both end up sucking? You draft one with the 1st in 15 after using a 3rd and a 2nd on a QB the previous 2 years?FAIL. We either go with Glennon next year and sign a veteran to compete with him (someone better than freakin Orlovski) and if he sucks we draft one in '15. Or we draft a QB in the first this next draft and that's that.

OR....they both look pretty damn good, and we take our pick of the two, and trade the other for a high draft pick or two.

I truly thought this was something related to inside sources saying Schiano will be fired.

I think we end up 8-9 or there abouts.  Might win the Rams game, although they looked decent Sunday beating the Saints.  And the Saints are fighting to to stay in the mix. They could screw around and end up playing a wildcard game on the road. So they won't be resting anyone when we play them, as some of us thought at the beginning of the season.

i think we need to get another qb in here as well. to be honest i think going after someone like philip rivers would do wonders for this team. we dont need a manning or brees ...if he had someone who could actually play football and score points our defense would be improved from being together a yr and also fom not being on the field every five mins.

"OR....they both look pretty damn good, and we take our pick of the two, and trade the other for a high draft pick or two."How do they both look good when one is on the bench? If the new guy starts, Glennon won't have much value. If Glennon still starts, no one will have seen the new guy play, all they'll know about him is that he couldn't take the starter's spot. Brees was released, you know. This pie in the sky scenario just isn't realistic.

I tend to agree with bucs4eva on this one, though I see AJ's point. But I base this off the following OPINION: I don't believe Glennon's ever going to completely sh!t the bed, thus a 2nd round pick could be better served shoring up offensive weapons, line, or even D than on a QB. Sign a journeyman QB in FA to compete - go with whoever's better after pre season. Worst case scenario (on my opinion) is all our 2014 QBs are mediocre, but hopefully get propped up by the supporting cast we drafted. Best case scenario those surrounding players finally allow Glennon to operate at a higher level. If that fails, go hard in 2015 drafting a QB.Full disclosure: I'm not a full time draft analyst!!!

The backup QB gets just as many snaps as the starter in training camp.  The backup QB runs the scout team. So they get plenty of work, and the coaching staff has a real good handle on what they are capable of.  Then if they decide they want to see more, they put him in the games for mop up duty. Not sure what Brees has to do with any of this. He wanted top 5 QB money from the Chargers, and they were not thrilled with that idea, seeing his shoulder was held together by bubble gum at the time. They offered him pretty good money, but it was all tied to incentives. Plus they had Rivers waiting in the wings.    So Miami and New Orleans made offers, and again, the Miami money was all tied to incentives because of the F-uped shoulder. So he accepted the Saints money deal.  It was a very risky move by the Saints, but you have to give them credit, they took a shot, and it worked out.  So I am not sure if you call that scenario, getting released, letting him go for injury reasons would be more accurate terminology.

"The backup QB gets just as many snaps as the starter in training camp."So your theory is that other teams will determine how much they're willing to offer in trade based on what our coaches see in training camp?
